Losing faith in Firefox

Supposedly the best browser out there. It's starting to annoy me. The pop-up blocker rarely works anymore, and some websites (such as here, i'm using IE at the moment) just stop responding on it. What browsers would you guys recommend?

The pop-up blocker always works on a Mac, I have one weird problem.

It jumps Back, without me ever telling it to.

My laptop lets me scroll up and down by dragging two fingers on the trackpad, and sometimes when i do it just goes back to the last page.

well i'm still using firefox... popupblocker works wonders for me... i wouldn't trade firefox for any other browser...

Internet Explorer.

That craze about Firefox was fucking stupid. I told everyone from the start it was shit, and it is. People just get so wrapped up in dumb little fads... it's ridiculous.

It's full of bugs. Half the time I kill it, it fails to cleam up after itself after causing a protection violation exception and being focibly killed by the OS.

Nevermind that it doesn't work right in about 10% of web sites...

IE is horrible! Every time a page loads it comes up with a 'non-secure items, want them displayed blah blah?' box. Hope Firefox works again soon.

You can turn that off in the settings.

I'd stop using firefox if ie came out with tabs. Tabs is the only reason I use firefox...

Actually firefox is really good with shady ass websites that try to install things.

Shift-Click in IE is almost as good as tabs; better in some ways.

i'm using 0.93 because when i installed 1.0 on my other, it was all stupid, and the extension i used didnt work... so i got the new version on that, and the older version on this one... the only problem is the CTRL F isnt as cool...

i have been having firefox problems too. if ie had tabs, i would go back to it. i'd also use Opera if they had a free version with no ads. does anyone have a copy of firefox 1.0? that was m favorite. everything 1.0.X has sucked IMO, though

Eh not for me, I need a one click solution. I'm lazy ass hell and avoid using the keyboard when possible.

One scroll wheel click opens that link in a new tab, no 8000 bars on the task-bar, I hate that shit.

I have at least 4-5 tabs open at all times.

Yes there is.

Tools > Internet Options (Or type in inetcpl.cpl in the run box) > Advanced tab on the far right - 2nd item from the very bottem explicitly says "Warn if switching between secure and not secure mode".

If not, or if it doesn't work then your internet explorer is hooped, which is not unheard of.

And yes, firefox is definitely good. If your pop up blocker doesn't work then it could be some popups from flash ads. Lots of sites have them now, and almost no browsers have anything that blocks those types of adds because they use a stupid flash script. It sucks that people have found ways to circumvent even the most sophisicated pop up blockers...

Another possibility is spyware. Whenever I mention spyware, people say "Oh no, it can't be. I have adaware and spybot" .............. who cares. It could be spyware. I used to be the biggest advocate of adaware, and it's still awesome. I keep the microsoft antispyware beta running because it suprisingly doesn't kill very many system resources because they bought it from giant. Spybot was something I never tried because I didn't like the gui, very bias I know. But it's great. It has a lot more advanced features that adaware doesn't have. And a few very fine points that definitely sell the program in my books.

Hope this helped a bit. The last thing I can think of would be a trojan. A fucking, god damned trojan. I had one on my win 98 machine. It's called "se.dll", and there's some other fucking lame ass trojans that were a bitch to remove. They hijack your homepage, and if they don't, they hid in your system and dig it's adware stricken roots deep down. God damn was it a piss off. :thumbdown:

Yeah, but sometimes you want to see a page for reference while reading another. For example, keep a post up while you reply to it in another window. Using tabs that way won't work because each covers the other. That's when Shift-Click comes into its own, more so when you have a dual monitor setup like I do.

Internet explorer 7's apparently going to have tab browsing. There's been a lot of bullshit about it on the floor at my work, even though none of us should know this anyways. But I've seen some stuff to do with msn, like tabbed browsing with out toolbar but who the hell uses that? They say when internet explorer 7's actually released, it will have a good pop up blocker. It will block javascript pop ups, any other pop up using normal web languages, and even flash pop ups. All supposedly done just like service pack 2's internet explorer additions. One little check box that should take care of things. But it's microsoft, so expect them to bloat it, or fuck it up in some weird sort of way for absolutely no reason. :smile:

Internet explorer looks great from what I've seen though!

with firefox, you are limited to just tabs. you can always open in new window instead of new tab. its just another option that IE doesnt provide.

I know, but FF also crashes more often than IE, and it's usually when I'm in the middle of research with a couple dozen pages up. One exception and the whole show shuts down.

There are a few other nit-picks with it that slow me down when I'm on overdrive looking things up. For example, when I Shift-Click in IE, the new window opens on the monitor where I last shut down the browser. This allows me to, for example, have a long list of Goggle hits on the left monitor and rapid-fire Shift-Click one after another, letting them all open new windows on the right monitor. Then I can take my time going through each new page.

With FF, Shift-Click opens the new browser on top of the one I just clicked on, so I have to manually move each over to the other monitor as I go down the list, often losing my place. It's a pain.
