Anytime I even open IE I get a virus.
FF might not be as supported as IE but it sure beats the fuk out of it as far as security holes go.

I've had pipelining enabled for a long time, but most of those other options (all the content.* ones) aren't even listed in my about:config. I'm using 1.0.4 btw. Also, I've noticed the freezing problem is much worse in linux than in windows. Firefox in general seems to be much smoother in windows.

i'm running firefox 1.0-4 for debian and never really have any problems. sometimes pop-ups will make it past the blocker, but very seldom. sometimes it'll freeze up, but usually only if i have 5 different firefox windows open on 4 different desktops with 12 tabs in each, while running apache and mysql at the same time (ie way too much shit running!).
when i run windows, i use firefox as well, and haven't noticed any problems with it.
i think it's a wonderful program, personally!

you'll need all those modification - all you have to do is add them. enabling pipelining alone doesnt do much. see the thread I linked to. there are proper ways to modify firefox according to your internet connection and personal preference.
I cannot tell the difference between firefox on windows and linux, personally.

Not to hijack this thread, but is the bookmarks file in the profile folder the correct one to backup?
Also, I'm currently using a theme you suggested a while back, can you be bothered to tell a lazy fucker where it is so I can back it up?
I'm about to do an assisted format, thanks!
P.S. Firefox runs great for me!!!!!!!!!!

I always back up my bookmarks by using the bookmark manager: bookmarks>manage bookmarks>file>export. save this file and then once you've cleared your profile and reinstalled, import.
I dont know about backing up the theme - I'd just redownload/install. it would take a few mins max. what theme was it? I use noia extreme.

For me, the reason FF is w/o question better than IE is extensions. Right now I have:
-Adblock -IEview (for the rare times I think a page is missing something--I browse a lot of different sites for my job) -Stumbleupon (My favorite extension) -Targetkiller -Nuke Anything -Swifttabs -Foxytunes -Flashblock (the one bio just recommended to deal with annoying flash objects) -PDF download -Download statusbar -Flashgot
You can't get this type of customization any other way. I love it. The only problem with it at all is that occasional stupid website that only works in IE. If it wasn't my job, I'd just boycott those dumb websites.
Oh and Bio: how do you get adfree browsing with Adblock? Do you just right-click on the banners and do 'Ad-block image'? That doesn't seem to affect my overall browsing at all? I think I'm missing something--are you supposed to bring up the Adblock window from the bottom-righthand corner of the window each time?

Oh I get it, you have to import a filter set like the one here: http://www.geocities.com/pierceive/adblock/-instructions.txt
Cool

yeah, you can use G's filterset, but I think it blocks too much including legit. website images.
here's one comprehensive filter that works wonders:
Quote:
[Adblock] /\D\d{2,3}x\d{2,3}\D/ googlesyndication us.yimg.com/a/ /\/buy_assets\// /[\W\d_](top|bottom|left|right|)?banner(s|id=|\d|_)[\W\d]/ /[\W\d](double|fast)click[\W\d]/ /[\W\d]click(stream|thrutraffic|thru|xchange)[\W\d]/ /[\W\d]value(stream|xchange|click)[\W\d]/ /[\W\d]dime(xchange|click)[\W\d]/ /[\W\d](onlineads?|ad(banner|click|-?flow|frame|ima?g(es?)?|_id|js|log|serv(er|e)?|stream|_string|s|trix|type|vertisements?|v|vert|xchange)?)[\W\d]/ /(hot|spy)log/ /[\W_](b(an|nr)s?|jump|redir(ect|s)?|stat)[\W_]/ /\W(cy|r)?c(ou)?nt(er|ed)?\W/ /p(artner|ing\.cgi|romotion)/ reklama /sp(onsor|ymagic)/ /top(100|cto)/
just copy/paste that into a .txt file, save, and import into adblock. It wont get everything, but it'll get 90% - the rest just right-click onto the advert and adblock it.
