Introducing...the Shroomery forum search engine for Firefox

I was bored tonight and thought I'd challenge myself. I made a search plugin for Firefox that will search the Shroomery forums. It is rather basic, but works great. I have only tested in Firefox 2.0 and have no idea if it works in older versions of the broswer. I also dont know how to get the plugin to automatically install, so you'll have to manually drop the file into the Firefox "searchplugins" directory (dont be a pussy, it is real easy - just follow each step one by one).

Installation:

1. download the shroomery.xml file

2. navigate to your firefox profile. Locations are:

In Linux, /home/YOURNAME/.mozilla/firefox/******.default/searchplugins

In Mac OSX, ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/*******.default/

In Windows XP/2000, C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*****.default/

In Windows 95/98/Me, C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\******.default\

("*****" meaning a random string of numbers and letters, you'll see)



3. Once you navigated to the profile directory, look for a folder named "searchplugins"

4. Copy/Paste or drag/drop the shroomery.xml file into the folder

5. Restart firefox.

You should see a Shroomery search engine + mushroom icon in your drop down search menu.

Let me know if this works for you guys.

oh, I forgot.

after you download the file, be sure to rename the file to shroomery.xml - just delete the .zip extension at the end.

sweet, this will prove to be very useful (already is :wink:)
i wonder if it has all the fancy words shroomery spell checker has, maybe there's a way to merge the lists together?

I'll have to check that out!

hummm... i've been getting very slow responses since i've upgraded, like i don't have enough memory to deal with this version and it gets stuck. although i found that when i press alt it sort of gets unstuck :smirk:

i dunno... any idea what this might be?

bad profile. delete, uninstall, and then start fresh.
