Hawaii being expensive is just a myth.  Some things like dairy, meat and cigarettes are more expensive, but my favorite liquor was the same price.

On a real estate site, I found a 4 bedroom, 2 bath house with 360 deck on second floor for $350,000.

I currently own a 1 bedroom, 1 bath condo in the south bay worth nearly $400,000.

You speak of asian tourists in Hawaii,,, well they live here and take over cities, along with eastern indians.  They all only hire and only shop at stores according their own race. 


I did live in the Bay Area, for years.  I lived in Los Altos and Mt. View near Los Altos while on a salary of 15k!  Worked in Palo Alto on California Ave. near the University.  Don't tell me it's expensive there.

Your condo may be worth 400k in your mind, but in reality, it's a condo! 

I live in WA state, own real land and don't have to live in some apartment and brag about how much it's worth.  My problem is I need to suck more water off the river.  What a problem to have, right?  When your power goes out and you have no water, then what you gonna do then, bucko?

I think this https://www.google.com/maps/@37.8914542,-122.2122704,351a,20y,160.45h/data=!3m1!1e3 would be my dream house.  Maybe someday.  I love the area.  I like East Bay Area.  This is close enough to Berkeley and Oakland, and also close to Orinda, which has more of a small town vibe.  It's right on the edge of natural beauty, specifically the golden hills, and the oak forests.  These are all things I specifically want for my california dream house location.  The property size is over an acre, so it's got privacy.  It's also in the 4-5K sq ft range, which is about right.  Not so huge it's like a mansion, but not so small that you can't get away from each other.

California's the best, although I find people are often disappointed that it isn't all sun and sand and stereotypes.

I love that in California you can be or do whatever the fuck you want to be or do, and no one cares. Want to go out wearing torn up dirty women's clothes and poorly applied makeup to the local McDonalds? Cool. Want to walk down the street in the middle of rush hour in a giant bear costume? Cool. Want to show up for your graduate level course at Berkeley in your pajamas having clearly just rolled out of bed? Cool. California doesn't care what you wear, how you act, who you are, no fucks are given.
