I remember reading somehwere long ago that all the nice chemicals are produced in the mushroom early on in the fruiting stage, which would make it unneccessary to wait until the mushroom is full size ready to break it's veil to pick it. I was wondering if anyone could clue me in on this issue. it's rather pertinent, since I am planning to ingest, and the shroomies are at about half the size (they would be full size around tomorrowish, but that is no good, can't eat them anytime after tonight for the next several weeks, if that makes sense). So, if anyone would care to nudge my dilemna, that would be great, thanks

Ya, the babies are quite excellent!

You would still be sacrificing about half your harvest by not waiting, but I can only assume you wouldn't pick more than you could eat.

It's a waste, but it can be done. If you have aborts then eat those, because they (supposedly) contain the highest concentrations of psilocybin and psilocin.

Do you have a scale?

You need to weigh out about 35 grams fresh in order for it to equal 3.5 grams dry. If you want to take an eighth, that is.

ah yes, thanks for jogging my memory. i will not be needing anywhere near an 1/8 since i make it customary to eat MAOI before ingesting, but thanks a bunch for reminding me of that little trick, which gives me an idea of scale. like i said, it's been a long ass time. time ago i would not be asking such rudimentary questions

Just out of curiousity, what exactly do you need to do when taking an MAOI before mushrooms?

I remember hearing you couldn't eat for 24 hours, and if you did you'd be screwed.

Well i guess you can put it this way. Say you had some half grown mushies... that weighed half there potential weight. You decided to pick those and eat the same amount you would normally eat. 3-4 dry grams. Well if you waited for them to mature then you would have 6-8 dry grams. Do an expirement. EAt the first batch as you want to. Then eat 6-8 grams of normal finished shrooms. See what gets you higher.

In my mind... i think 6-8 grams of fully grown mushies would get you higher then 3-4 grams of those same ones that are only half way fully developed and only half the weight.

Uh.. better be ready or experienced before going with 8 dried grams!!

I aggree with you. I once ate 3 grams of aborts and got really high but no more than let say 4 grams of mature shrooms. I'm also pretty sure that in many cases, 3 grams of aborts and 3 grams of mature will do basically the same thing.

i fill 3 OO caps with ground up syrian rue seeds, ground in my whirly blade grinder. i eat those and wait an hour, then eat the shrooms. you can eat, but you want to have an empty stomach when you do take them, so eating lightly or not at all is a good idea. i don't know if "screwed" would be the word, but you will have some pretty awful stomach cramps if you have food in your gut.
i am not so sure i like the rue anymore though, it floors you waaay too hard. last night i ate 15 wet grams of little tiny shrooms, and i was just wasted for hours. it was too much, really. i had a feeling that if i didn't think i would have enough musrhooms, the mushrooms would end up kicking me in the but for thinking that.

8 grams is not a big deal for an experienced tripper..... A friend of mine ate 14 dry drams (half an ounce) and was fine...

I think it all depends on the person. I dont think all people could eat that much weight without having some trouble. Some people are also alot more tolerant. I myself couldnt even imagine 14 grams.

I have done it I wont again but when I do eat I usually eat around 7 dry grams. 3.5 doesnt get to where I want to be I trip but not trip out to my speritual place

Im not the one who would be doing this expirement. This bascially explains though that waiting for full mature mushrooms is alot better then eating them before they have matured. Weight wise at least.

Ok - now for reality.
There is no clinical evidence that psilocybe mushrooms convert less tryptophan and thus produce less alkaloids at later stages of flush maturity. Therefore there is no evidence that mushrooms stop producing alkaloids before maturity.
With this in mind - i have never noticed a difference between young and mature cubensis fruits or aborts and i have tripped on each probably about 50+ times atleast...
