Shake popcorn before casing or no?

Should you shake popcorn jars prior to pouring them onto the lower verm or no?

The idea behind shaking is to distribute the mycelium througout the sustrate for faster colonization, so if the jar is fully colonized, I don't see the need to shake.

If you want to break the kernels up to make the spawn easier to use, I guess I could see that, but I'd suggest just breaking the substrate up with a clean fork or something as you go. But do make sure to break the substrate up.

That pic shows a substrate depth of 2 inches with 2 jars. Recently "I" have used one pint jar (filled 3/4) per casing. Seems to work out nicely - and gives more room for a nice thick casing layer. :thumbup:
