what was delusional about my OP?

i'm not under any delusion that i specifically am being watched, nor do i consider this to be the case of the shroomery--but, my experience has also shown that the state is both able and willing to infilitrate many seemingly innocuous activities (ie, grassroots environmental organizing), that is doesn't seem too far fetched that a site like the shroomery wouldn't have passed under the radar either

a core concept of social disruption and propaganda is that knowing the tools and tactics used is one of the best methods of limiting it's effect on yourself--whereas those who believe themselves above these tactics prove to be some of the easiest to influence--so i'm just doing my part to spread information i think valuable

I sincerely doubt the state would be able to disrupt this forum in any meaningful way, sure, if they poured resources into the effort, maybe, but I doubt the cost/benefit ratio of disrupting this forum would be worth it. The CIA (or insert alphabet soup arrangement) has better shit to do than allocate a large amount of resources into this forum. It would be a massive waste of time. Not to mention the risk of having such an operation exposed. No one here is worth the effort.

Environmental activism is a completely different arena in terms of risk/benefit to the government and your experience in that field does not carry over.

How do you know OP wasn't a government agent trying to make everyone paranoid?

what resources?--one of the core concepts of these methods linked in the op is that a single individual can effectively disrupt multiple online communities with minimal resources

and what would the risk of being outted consist of? especially when it happens over the anonymity of the internet--to me, the risk/benefit ratio seems to be skewed towards benefit

the net cast over the environmental movement spans everything from direct action training camps to community puppet shows--for what is, arguably, a non-threat--what makes you think that the net cast over drug culture, specifically that part of the culture which intends to reveal government misinformation, would not be placed under a similar net?

being afraid of ones own shadow is no improvement over living with your head in the sand--but i can only provide the information, not control how people respond to it--you can lead a horse to water...

It would take far more resources to offset a community this size than a small grassroots movement, it only takes a few agent provocateurs to truly fuck a movement that involves corporeal activism. It would take a sustained effort from many individuals to alter the general atmosphere of this forum. It's huge, there are over a hundred people active at any given time and thousands of posts per day. Your link lead to a page with more links than I care to read over, if you want me to respond to something in particular, quote it.

The risk of being outed would be increased vigilance in whatever community a group failed to disrupt and media attention directing more people into the group. The internet is not anonymous, highc thought it was anonymous and asked me to DOX him, even offered to pay me, I did it for free in under one minute. There are ways to obfuscate your identity, but there really is no surefire way (unless you spend a godawful amount of time) to completely hide who you are online. TOR has many flaws and it is not completely anonymous.

The environmental movement is not "arguably" a non-threat, there are several organizations that are officially recognized as domestic terrorist groups and should be treated as such. They have caused millions of dollars worth of property damage and have endangered people's lives. You think we're breaking ground here by revealing misinformation about drugs? We're not. Any person can readily discredit government propaganda about drugs by looking at legitimate medical journals and wikipedia.

It would take about the resources available to a spy to make a post exactly like that.

The Shroomery is about as eclectic a place as you will find on the intrawebs. We gots it all boy.
They've brought plenty of them here.

The question is....

DO THEY HAVE THE ENDURANCE?

look, i'm being dragged into a debate i am not particularly interested in--i agree, the shroomery is probably not the highest on a list of surveillance/disruption candidates--perhaps the opening paragraph in my OP directing folks to question its presence on the shroomery gave people the mistaken idea of what i wished to stress

though i get the impression you did not read any of the essays i linked to, and completely understand why (it's a lot to read), i feel that it is very important information to know and decided to share it with my internet community of the shroomery--if you have any criticisms towards the actual posted information, and not just towards its relevancy towards the shroomery, i would be keen to continue this debate

one final note, the tactics and behaviours listed are also common tactics used by regular folks in the quest for lulz--so, even if you don't wish to read it as a guide to understanding state oppression in the online world, read it as a guide to not feeding the trolls

Gentleperson?

It's ok to say gentlemen. It's not sexist or wrong. An established word that has men on the end that's been used for centuries should not be changed to end in person because it hurt some little girls feelings.

If it gets under your skin and bothers you that much, you must be kinda sexist.

what if the word refers to 'gentle people' and has no connection to 'men of the gentry' and you are just a pile of socks?
