JEB!,Hillary,Trump, or Bernie?
    #23016868 -

There's your choices for November.  Since Hillary automatically wins by superdelegates, and the RNC has already said that THEY, NOT THE PEOPLE, select the Republican Nominee, we should have Trump and Bernie running as 3rd and 4th party candidates. Along with Gary Johnson, that means there isn't going to be a candidate who gets 270 electoral votes.

therefore, the House of Reps is going to decide who the president is going to be from among the top 3.

So, aay hello to President Bush!  :smug:

Its a great big shit sandwich, and 330 Million people are going to get to take a bite.

We need to elect someone based on their actions rather then their empty words and false promises. We need someone who is qualified to be president rather than someone who is qualified to tell us they are qualified.

Snakes in the grass, but now they hide in the place we least expect. Plain sight.

Why would we start doing that now? We've had mediocre presidents for decades.

Those four options are like asking if I would prefer to be stabbed, droned, shot, or drowned. I will be voting for none of the above and crossing my fingers for 4 more years of obstructionist congress. Doing nothing is a real option and looking more and more to be the best option ahead of us.

Bernie will not run as a third party candidate. I don't know how much of a realist he is, but he's not a scumbag and he pledged that he wouldn't do that.  People who think writing in a candidate need to keep sipping the coolaid.

The GOP could definitely definitely broker the convention and get a non-insane nominee in at the end which seems, seems sort of what they always do, but Trump did get a lot of delegates, which is going to make this more difficult than usual, since Trump is threatening riots if the party goes against him. If it happens, I think Bush is gone, and Kasich or Romney are more probable, and they will lose badly.

Despite their congresessional advantages, I think the GOP has ruined their chances of ever electing a President, unless they come up with somebody who minorities love, because that is the way the demographics are lining up in the electorate.

Every GOP Presidential primary makes it look more and more like more and more like they have a built in self-suicide machine. Ever since Reagan sucked up to the fundamentalists, even though he couldn't care about church himself, this day has been coming.

Falcon, there is not very much to like about bernie. My biggest two issues are his increases in taxes and raising the minimum wage. 2.5% across the board tax increases hurt lowe income people. Raising the minimum wage should be a local issue at best and not done at all on the federal level. The reality of raising the minimum wage federally puts be back at the bottom. I have worked my whole life to achieve the American dream, now I hear that flipping burgers is the American dream. Maybe I shouldn't have pulled myself out of poverty since there would be a politician do it for me.

$15/hour isn't even the 'American Dream' today. You think having people out there making less than you is 'the dream'? lol... If minimum wage went up, so would all other wages. They're not going to be able to get away with paying an EMT the same as they pay a burger flipper, just as they aren't able to do it right now.

Minimum wage used to be higher than it is, so there is no reason it can't be raised. As far as taxes, publicly funded healthcare and college would be far more beneficial to most of the country than 2.5% less in taxes. College debt is a bubble waiting to burst, and if something isn't done about it, it will crash the economy.

Bigbadwolf, no the dream is not to have people making less. The dream is having financial stability. The point I was driving at is while it is nice to think that raising the wage nationally will fix everything, the reality in rural areas is different from urban areas. My town will be devestating by the raise bernie is suggesting and it is a little arrogant for you to assume to know that our wages will magically go up if the minimum goes up. That is simply not the case where I live. Raising the min. wage here transfers the wealth to the larger corporations that most liberals demonize. Walmart has bigger profit margins than small town businesses work on, so they are not able to absorb the increased la or cost in the same way. Sure, my wages will go up, but it will take years and the cost of living will jump up very quickly unless people spend more of their money at Walmart. When they take their dollars to walmart, it takes away from the already struggling small business. You can point to all the statistics you like to try to prove wrong what happens in towns like mine, but remember that those numbers you are using are actually people. Are you sure enough that nobody will be pushed into poverty after years digging themselves out? I have seen it in my town happen again and again, and I care too much about poor people to force them to go through it again. I get to look the poor in the eye and not talk above them about how much I care.

Well, me having 2.5% of your money is beneficial to me so then am i justified in taking it regardless of what situation you are in?

College will be much more affordable when we cut the federally guaranteed loans. When the colleges can charge whatever they want with a virtual certainty to get paid, why would they be affordable?

And to clarify, I fully support raising minimum wages locally where needed. More power to Seattle for doing it. Same with DC and NYC. The problem I have is with the federal government doing it. We have a large country and a large economy. What is good in one area could be certain death for another. Treating vastly different areas all like they are exactly the same is bad for the collective group. Not all Asians are good at math, but some are. Does that mean they should all be accountants? I don't think so.

I believe Bernie's proposed minimum wage hike has provisions in it to protect small businesses that can't afford it. I believe the owner has to make no more than double what their employees earn, or something like that, but I may be wrong.

His proposed $1 Trillion in infrastructure projects would really get the economy humming again. If we're going to continue throwing that kind of money around, let's do it at home. Our infrastructure could use some repair, and the people can use jobs.

Universal Healthcare would take the burden of Healthcare costs off of employers, which would be beneficial to small businesses. Publicly funded higher education would benefit every aspect of our society, by significantly reducing college debt, and giving the American workforce the kind of education we need to be competitive, and undergo various entrepreneurial pursuits in technological fields.

Raising minimum wage doesn't fix "everything".  It fixes the problem of full time workers living in poverty.

Sfb said:

Your town wouldn't benefit if everyone had more money to spend?  What do people do in your town that wouldn't benefit from more money?  And if the minimum goes up, woof is right, everyone elses wages would go up too; otherwise, people would leave high skilled jobs to work somewhere easier.

People having more money to spend would make it easier for them not to shop at Walmart.  I don't follow your logic.

Pushed into poverty by making more money?  Again, that makes absolutely no sense.

California, New York, and the other highly paid liberal states could still raise the minimum wage higher than the Federal amount, as they already do.

Again, you assume that everyone will magically have more money by raising the minimum wage. When a small business simply doesn't have the money to pay that wage, where does it come from. Also if bernie's plan exempts businesses who can't afford it, who is going to take those jobs that pay less than the minimum? Not much of a minimum if some are allowed to pay less is it? You can wax poetic all you want about more money being a good thing and you are right in situations where more money is available. In places where businesses already do the right thing, cost of living is low enough to make it on a wage under your demanded wage, and margins are low (rural america) the money shifts from small businesses to giant corporations that do very little if anything to benefit the communities. So your premise is wrong wheb you put everyone into the same mold to begin with. I don't want to stop places where it will help from raising wages, but why do liberals insist on putting their fingers into everyone's pie thinking that what they can fix everything with the same solution. The original question was what is wrong with bernie. My answer is that he wants the federal government to fix problems that just aren't their job to fix. My ideal government would be liberal locally, conservative at the state level, and libertarian at the federal level. That would be a good setup to actually help everyone be a bit more fee and prosperous.
