I am confused as to what 'just thin rhizomorphs' means. Are you saying that your jars are not fully colonized yet? If you can see patches of substrate through the thin rhizomorphs then they aren't colonized and you should wait. If they are colonized then you should be able to birth them no problem. Your post is just a bit confusing is all.

wispy growth is due to low moisture content

I think the moisture is low; but the thin layers of rhizomorphs have been there for about a week with no further growth.

I'll be the first to tell you that I am no expert, but I would just go ahead and birth them since the patches (which I am assuming is pretty small) haven't filled in w/ no more growth. I would think that the uncolonized areas would fill in shortly as long as the terrarium is kept as sterile as possible. You may want to wait for some expert advice though.
