Old Syringe? Won't squirt.
    #2295253 - 02/02/04 09:46 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I have a syringe thats about 6-8 months old. It won't squirt the spores out-it's clogged or something. Any suggestions?

if you have access to an 18 guage needle, you can take the old needle off and put a new one on... be real careful though, wear gloves and do it in a glovebox...

If brute force isn't working, your not using enough...

The plunger is probably stuck to the side of the syringe. Sometimes the rubber dries out or things just get sticky.

One thing to try is to draw some air in through a flame so as to make sure it is sterile, then expel the air, allowing some moisture to get onto the plunger sides. Usually, once you get it unstuck you are good to go.

Alternatively, you could very well have a clogged needle and replacing it can be an option.

The needle's probably blocked with substrate. Use brute force to unblock , or scrape the inside with a thinner needle, or push hard while flaming the needle to use staem pressure to unblock it

Take a pin and heat it up red hot then stick in in the needle's hole. Then just use some brute force into a clean shot glass then suck it back in if it works.

I wouldnt try pulling it sucking in air from a fire because if and when it lets loose, you might pull the pluger out and spill all the contents! :0

The plunger is prob dry like they said, so mabey take some vegtable oil (heat it beforehand if your anal) and put one or two drops in the back end of the syringe and leat sit for an hour to moisten and lube the rubbber.

if that needle is clogged with substrate, that substrate in there is probably rotted... flame that needle like a mofo before you use it...

Hehe, come on.. if he puts a lot of pressure on it you know what is going to happen. He will empty the entire contents into whatever he happens to be pointing at it at the moment.

Not that I have any solutions but I think I once had some resistance from the plunger and yes, that exact thing happened. Its a bit too easy to do that.

I use two hands when a syringe gets stuck, one to hold the body and the other to squeeze the plunger to provide resistance, never found one I couldnt get unstuck. I am new to mycology but have been using syringes for labwork for years...

Heat the needle in the middle and listen for the pop. I've done it a few time's with the homemade syringes I use.
