Nothing wrong with covering songs. Elvis made a career out of it. I'm by far not a deadhead, but the original songs the Dead did do have some of the best lyrics I've ever heard. Cheers to Robert Hunter.

Jerry was really into folk music and music preservation. Covering songs means you like them , respect them and feel you can do a good representation of them...
I really dont see the problem. They had tons of original material.

Did you not know this?  They cover songs and write their own songs...  Lots of bands do that.  That is how it works, old songs are regularly performed by newer artists.

Led Zeppelin did this, Eric Clapton, even the earlier Beatles did this.

They are good old songs.  I like hearing them performed at different times in history.

wow sheekle you are stupid.  it's called rearranging music that you like to honor the musicians.  sublime is another cover band.  but covering songs is not how the dead got famous.

as a musician, it gets boring playing your own music.  it's so fun to rearrange music and give yer own little twist, like the dead and sublime do.
