In BF3 and onwards it wasn't so easy to do that. Not when everyone can just load out with a stinger I was pissed about the state of the aerial warfare when I got BF3. They destroyed one of my favorite parts of the game. Everything was slanted way too heavily to ground warfare.

As for Desert Combat, I wasn't around for the 1942 version.. I did have 1942, but that was the earliest days of my PC gaming and I didn't really understand what the fuck I was supposed to do I'd wind up way out in the middle of nowhere wondering where everyone was and thinking I was in an empty server. I did get BF2's version of it though. I loved that mod. A lot of the aspects that were introduced in the mod ended up molding BF3 and BF4.

We were so serious about this shit man. ALL me and my step brother did was attack chopper.

He had 2 levels to his room right. like half his room was 2 feet above the other half.

yeah we fucking set my desk up high and his desk down low like we were in a real chopper.

and I could just fly 2 inches off the deck behind every building and tree and then he calls your chopper/jet out and i nose up and look at the TV guided missile through his screen past mine and take you out then we go back to just gat cannoning grunts everywhere, i'd be like 0-2 as a pilot, and he would constantly end up with over 100 - 2 on pub servers.

We leagued bf2 for a good while too.

I fucking wreck shop in the choppers. i been pro chopper pilot since bf2 came out. i get a good team in that little bird in bf4 and it's on, i'll take out jets and be hoppin back and forth with my wing man who tv guides and i'll head shot a noob as we fly by throw some repairs out and bust a different chopper with my stinger then i hop back in and heat seek the fuck out of the chopper and booooom headshot the pilot with the minigun right before the missles hit.
