Could a presure cooker be 8psi? P_O

hey folks I have this oooold presure cooker with a rocker that I happened to find the manual the other day and in the manual says that the normal pressure for this cooker is 8psi? and that at 16psi the safety gets into game :S
Any ideas what should I do with it? maybe pressure cook for another hour or so? whould that compensate?
Thanks!

Mine is 12 PSI and i cook for 120 minutes using pp5s, if you double the reccomended time to like 3 hours you should be ok.

I would do qt jars for 3 hrs with an 8 psi cooker. it would suck to try and save 30-60mins PC time and end up with bacteria in the jars!

thanks for the answers brothers!
Yea so I guess I'll be alright with about 2 - 2.5 hours, in my last bunch I pcd for 1.5h and I got my first contaminated cake! full of green and black mold right in the inside of the cake, well maybe that happened during inoculation more likely but who knows :P damn I miss my presto canner!
oh another thing I just made a new sgfc but I think I might have overdone it with the holes? I marked them 2in apart? how does it look like to you?

brf cakes? then 90mins is more than enough, you dont even need a PC for those! sgfc looks good, lacks a bit of light tho..

I couldnt see a sign of contam nowere in the outside of the cake!!! it was lying in the heart of the cake he bastard!!!

Yeah you can steam sterilize (no pressure) grains for 12 hours or even more but it can be done haha.

Also for the longest time I used 2 shitty PCs I got for free. One was 8 psi, and one was 10 psi. I did grains and Mono's np. I couldn't even fit qts so I did pints. I PCd normally for 2.5 hours. Qts would need a longer PC time.

No way. That's a good way to lose the water and have the bitch run dry. Just ask this person what happens when that does happen..
and a couple of ruined PCs.

A PC really isn't supposed to have a butt ton of water in it. Like 2-3 quarts is probably fine for a run of average length.
