Alien's wheat preparation TEK. 7

Hello, this is the first Tek I write. So, where I live is hard to get grains and the only shakable grains I can find are wheat, corn and canary seed. But the one I most use is wheat. So I kinda master wheat preparation lol. This may be a trite Tek, I hope beginners find this useful.
I start with 1/3 of dry grain for each jar I'm going to use, wheat expands to the double in size when is fully hydrated, so the jars will have 2/3 of fully hydrated wheat by the end of the whole process.

Dry grains in a bucket

Rinsing all the dirt out until the water is clean

I let them soak in hot tap water for 24 hrs.

Gypsum added

Cover the bucket with something

After 24 hrs it looks like this

Disturb the water and all the bacterial water with gypsum will show up. I throw that water out and rise again until is clean.

Simmer for 10 minutes with the water slightly bubbling.

I use a big strainer and let them steam dry whatever time is needed for the outer grain to be dry. I don't use any fans or anything, usually take 20-30 minutes.
You can do two tests to know when they are ready.
Take a bunch with your hand and slightly squeeze. When you open the hand if there are a lot of grains on the palm of your hand, then they need more time.

When they are ready, just a few grains will be on the palm of your hand.

You can also do the paper towel test
When they need more time.

When they are ready

As usual, load up your jars, foild on top, and pc them for 90-120 minutes at 15 psi.

This is a comparison of how the grains looks in every stage just for reference. Dry, full hydrated and after simmer.

Many ways to peel an onion. Sometimes I do just like him, most of the times I skip the soaking. Nice writeups are always welcome btw.

Glad you posted. There isn't enough info on how to prepare wheat on this site. Nicely done.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Eh.. I work with rye but its pretty close to wheat. When I started working with grains I used the oldschool method of just mixing with a premeasured spot of water and PC.
Its just an inferior grain prep. It really is. It clumps, burst grains, sticky etc. In small bags it might be OK or jars but if you try to pack 4-5qt spawn bags like that forget about it man.
Try a proper grain prep man, you won't go back Im positive

So you pour off your soak water with gypsum before boiling? When I prep my rye I just boil it in it. Do you find it makes much difference?
Also do you find much difference between wheat and rye prep?

I can't find rye where I live .
Yes, I pour off that water and rinse the grains again until the water is clear. After the 24 hrs soak, that water is full of bacteria, you don't want to simmer with that water really... it's sticky and bacterial, the gypsum was already absorbed in the grains anyway in 24 hrs period. If you want to simmer with gypsum just add gypsum to your clean new simmer water but don't use the soaking bacterial water for simmering. Bacteria are numbed in the sterilization process for a limited time, but not eliminated. So you don't want to mess around with more bacteria, is just common sense. Also, I found that if you simmer with the dirty soaking water is going to make the grains kinda more sticky.
Thanks guys for the positive responses!

Well, but by that point, the grains absorbed all the gypsum they could in the 24 hours soak. Why would you need all that extra gypsum bacterial water thing? You can always add more gypsum later, on the simmering step or before PC'ing the jars. Gypsum is dirt cheap.

The difference between rye and wheat berries is so marginal as to not really make a signifigant difference.

Well, I see like rye a little smaller grain than wheat so maybe more inoculation points?

Not so much,to make a difference in inoculation points youd have to basically go to rye grass seed or millet, something much smaller

Right on man nice tip! I do hate bits of gypsum getting stuck on the grains its hard to tell what I'm looking at. I think Ill pour off the soak water next time.
Nice tip! You improved my grain prep!
Really good write up too man

I need to get my hands on one of these... Jealous over here. I was thinking of getting one of those rice straining tower things, itd make rinsing them soo easy.
I bet if one were to follow this tek they'd have great grains. I have been doing something very similar with my oats and its amazing. Rinsing is actually great because fuck that sticky starchy shit.

That is a custom made strainer that was made by a guy in my city that works the aluminium. I told him how I wanted it and he sold me the strainer for a really cheap price. It works wonders because I can distribute 10 (2/3) quarts of hydrated grains evenly and that makes them steam dry much faster, in 20 minutes or so...the air of the kitchen is still when they are steam drying, no air currents or anything.
