Hey man youre young do what you want. But I will say having a cool job with lots of flexibility, such as like a tips position, working as a barber, etc.... man that extra money is nice! And you still get to be you, and you still get the free time to go enjoy life but now you have money. Looking back on my brokeass years,  I wish I hadnt been such a financial drain on people who wanted me to eat and shit. I had jobs, but there were times where I was brokeass, and it was just lame. Id much rather have consistently worked part time and still had time to party, go to vegas, etccc.  whenever i want because I still had money.

food for thought bro but good luck either way

Kids have to stop having this "I'm special" bullshit shoved down their throats. Nope, not every kid is special, in fact some kids are downright stupid and worthless. Not their fault, its a combination of genetics and their parents but still, call a spade a spade. I knew some dumb as fuck kids who I thought "Nope, you ain't special at all. The other kind of special maybe..."

I know I was raised on the early end of that nonsense but luckily my own self-loathing kept it in check. Also life has a funny way of teaching you how un-special you really are

In other words, stfu OP and get a job

Work is a waste of life. I feel just feel too passionate about it.  Why try so hard to barely get benefits and ultimately die one day? I'm not saying I'm special but I just genuinely don't care about working. I'll probably end up getting a job but I don't want to.

Its called being an adult man. You were fed a lie that life is mostly good when its actually mostly shit. You take the good stuff when it comes and try to appreciate it that much more for its scarcity

I think you guys have the wrong idea here

Life doesn't have to be shitty, life can be whatever you want it to be but the catch is you have to be willing to work your ass off to change your life if it is shitty and build it into something awesome, it's not gonna be easy and it isn't supposed to be, it's gonna take a long time and a lot of willpower and drive to see it through but it is definitely possible..

I'm kinda in the same boat though when it comes down to it, gotta get my shit together, find a good career and all that but at least I have hope, at least I'm still young and I still have the power to turn things around for myself and I know you guys can too but it isn't gonna happen on its own

In a way we are saying the same thing. Working your ass off, getting rejected for stuff (jobs, submitted writing/art, people, w/e), random bad bullshit that happens. Its all part of it. Life doesn't owe you anything and you've got to claw your way in.

And I wasn't being sarcastic about good things being scarce making you appreciate them more. When a half-decent job comes your way, instead of thinking "Well this isn't really what I wanted exactly" you think "Fuck yes, finally something good happened!"

I got a friend in cali who doesnt work, spends his time traveling by train hopping and squating in different cities. He does get minor jobs at bike repair shops and trimming buds in norCal from time to time. Mother fucker lives with no responsibilities and is probably happier than alot of rich folks. I guess it is possible to be a happy bum, but what will happen when you get older? Who will take care of you? You'll probably never have a family.

Theres a place called "The Messa" on some desert where people live off the grid. But even then, life would be alot harder.

Get a job on an off shore oil rig. You work two weeks, and get two weeks off. Thats only 6 months out of the year! Pay is above average too.

Man, I understand why you don't want to work, but if you do decide not to get a job, you've got to live with the consequences of your decision. If you really decide that you don't want to work and you want to break free of the rat-race, you need to own up to it, move out, and live rough. Enjoy the freedom of having no responsibilities, as much leisure time as you could want, and not being a "slave to the system." While that isn't the lifestyle that I personally would choose myself, I could understand why some people would like to live that way, and if they're sound of mind and come to that decision in a rational way, I respect them for living up to their ideals. If that's the case for yourself, then so be it.

If, on the other hand, you plan on living with your parents while also making a conscious decision to never be employed or earn any money, that is just pathetic beyond words. If that is the case, you're nothing but a leech with zero integrity or ambition. How inconsiderate do you have to be to eat your parents' food, live in their house, and generally be a parasite while deliberately deciding to never, ever contribute, despite their express wish that you do so? What kind of son would that make you? A pathetic and manipulative one.

The problem most people have with working is that they aren't progressing. They don't know how to progress in their jobs. They go to work, do the same shit and ultimately learn nothing of value. Doing mind numbing tasks all day can wear a person down. Work isn't the problem - stagnation is. Getting stuck in the same routines on a regular basis is.

With a budget and some determination, you can change your outcome. Save money to fund new skills. There is little stopping you from going to schools to become a licensed airplane or helicoptor pilot; working on oil rigs and making bank; becoming a carpenter and building your own home; buying houses and cars and flipping them for profit; joining the military and doing a whole range of jobs from shooting people to saving people to working on satellites (I do the satellite work myself); get a CNA license and work in nursing homes while going to school to become a nurse or doctor in the future; get tools to make wood crafts like cutting boards and fancy chess boards and shit and sell them online; move to a legal state and get into the marijuana industry (learn botany in your own state, move to a legal state and guarantee a job) or learn to grow legal mushrooms; learning how to rig parachutes and teaching people to skydive; joining world organizations like the red cross and going to war torn areas doing what the fuck ever they need you to do; Learning how to use free resources to fund art projects that you can make extra money on; learn another language like arabic or chinese fluently using free online resources and using public forums, then put your language skills to practical use in other countries; learn how to program shitty android apps and sell them for money, hone your skills into making better ones every time; don't just learn how to play music or make art, learn how to record, print and monetize your work so you can fund future work;

Possibilities are literally endless, my list is pretty damn generic realistically. Getting stuck in a cycle of minimum wage poverty is starting to look more like a choice to me and less like an end all for the masses. Don't have children until you're financially stable. Stop using so many drugs until you are financially stable. Drink on Fridays or Saturdays, not both and not all week. Fucking network. Life's fucking easy, all it takes is a little cognitive effort and a real decision to stop bullshitting yourself and others. No one cares if you manage a fucking burger king (I've done so), save money and move the fuck on to bigger and better things. Stop being stagnant.

i've always understood that three things needed to find happiness in your work are: autonomy, complexity, and a sense of progress/completion

i would add on top of that job security--not precarious temp labour

and, sad to say, i feel the vast majority of work in the modern age does not have any of these qualities

I've always been a firm believer that if I can't "find" a job I like, I'll slave away until I can make one for myself.
It's easier for a computer minded person, sure. But many can do this, just don't summon the drive to.

Rejoice and be glad for the Springtime has come
We can throw down our shovels and go on the bum
Hallelujah, I'm a bum, Hallelujah, bum again
Hallelujah, give us a handout to revive us again

The Springtime has come and I'm just out of jail
Without any money, without any bail
Hallelujah, I'm a bum, Hallelujah, bum again
Hallelujah, give us a handout to revive us again

I went to a house and I rapped on the door
And the lady says, "Bum, bum, you've been here before"
Hallelujah, I'm a bum, Hallelujah, bum again
Hallelujah, give us a handout to revive us again

I like Jim Hill, he's a good friend of mine
That is why I am hiking down Jim Hill's main line
Hallelujah, I'm a bum, Hallelujah, bum again
Hallelujah, give us a handout to revive us again

I went to a house and I asked for some bread
And the lady says, "Bum, bum, the baker is dead"
Hallelujah, I'm a bum, Hallelujah, bum again
Hallelujah, give us a handout to revive us again

Why don't you work like other men do
Now, how can I work when there's no work to do
Hallelujah, I'm a bum, Hallelujah, bum again
Hallelujah, give us a handout to revive us again

Why don't you save all the money you earn
If I didn't eat, I'd have money to burn
Hallelujah, I'm a bum, Hallelujah, bum again
Hallelujah, give us a handout to revive us again

I don't like work and work don't like me
And that is the reason I am so hungry
Hallelujah, I'm a bum, Hallelujah, bum again
Hallelujah, give us a handout to revive us again

This is a cute thread.

"I dont want a job.  I think i'm too special to have to work.  I just want my parents to be 'slaves to the system' working to support my lazy ass.  I think the money isn't worth it.  It's nice to not have to worry about feeding myself or paying for shelter, or electricity, or a phone bill, or internet.  Yeah, I get everythign I want because mom and dad are slaves to the system so I can talk about how i never will be.  Woo!"

Nobody wants a job, your parents sure dont want to spend their whole lives working to support you either.  But it's nice to be able to afford food.
