some oysters i grew
    #2159736 -

hello, here is a photo of some white oysters me and walk grew; we made 5 10 litre bags 1 of which contaminated. The one pictured below was the first to fruit and produced 500gm wet. The 3 remaining bags have fruited, and i'm going to harvest today. I'll post the total wet weight after i've weighed them. There were a couple big fuckers on this particular bag, one was 13cm across. The coin is a 20cent NZD.

Very nice flush
What did you use as substrate? Just
straw? or a straw mix?

The substrate is straw and horse shit about 50/50 or a couple big armfulls/half a sack, to be more precise. The total wet weight for the first flushes from all four bags is 1.8kg.

Walk has grown many buckets of plain straw before of about the same size; it will be interesting to compare the results for both substrates. That was kind of the purpose for this grow. . . . I think

I like how those ones have a different shape to them than the blue oysters do.
those ones look more wild.
nice work.

i'm going to be growing oyster mushrooms soon... could somebody link me to some info on it? i know i could find some if i searched around, but i'm wondering what you guys think are the best teks out there.

by the way, i've never grown any mushrooms before but i've done a lot of picking. i'm looking to grow a lot of these and sell them to a local mushroom buyer, but i'm mainly doing it for the experience. it'd be nice if i could make some cash while i'm at it.

Where do you keep them when they are pinning ?
I have some oysters (p.pulmonris ) on coffee ground in my living room. They do very well till they are pinning. They develop huge pins but then they stall. I have put some clear plastic around their fruiting container in order to keep the humidity high but that does not work either. The temperature in my living room is between 20 an 22 degree Celsius ( 68 - 72 degree Fahrenheit ). What could be the reason for that ?

I tried growing some pulmonarius in my room inside a container with perlite. They mutated from lack of oxygen, so I attached a small fan connected to a wick device. They looked healthier as pins, but dryed out before reaching maturity. The conclusion was the ambient humidity of my room is simply too low to grow oysters (I suspect due to the fireplace in my room). You could try and build a really good humidfying device, but it would probably be easier to find a 'wetter' part of your home.

I tried down the end of my passageway and achieved much better results. I think the problem will be with the humidity of your living room. Try finding somewhere in your home with a higher humidity.

I hope this helps.

yeah, i got some better results putting some thin plastic around the container, but it still could be better.
I think growing them in a saperate room which I could keep humid would be the best (except waiting for the summer  ).
But my flat is to small and I have really no space left inside and outside it is just too cold.
