I need something quite simple, main reason I need such program is cause I want to remove the sound from the movies, and insert sound from mp3s. The files are .avi and recorded with digital camera

I'm using adobe premiere...  let me rephrase...

I'm learning adobe premiere :smile:

Its a little complex.  I want to add effects, do high resolution slow motion.  Add sound and text.  So far so good, but definitely not a "simple" program.

VirtualDub is pretty good.
Tmpeg is decent.
Adobe Premiere is the only way to go for top end consumer level stuff.
of course wich one of these you use will depend upon what you want to do, and what you are comfortable with.
