Book on songwriting/composing?

#22445762 - 10/28/15 06:57 PM (11 years, 3 days ago)

I play guitar and want to start making my own songs and am looking for a book to help me connect the dots. I have a decent grip on music theory and almost bought this book, http://www.amazon.com/review/R3PEOM9HZ5989/ref=cm_cr_dp_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=0879307498&channel=detail-glance&nodeID=133140011&store=digital-text#wasThisHelpful, but figured I'd come here first and see what you all have to say on this subject.

What books or texts or information can you offer for learning the art of music-making?

IMO, it's best to practice and practice and practice. Writing music for the guitar is kinda hard to do if you try to fit within the lines of something.

Start with a riff, write a melody, and form them together into a song. Personally, I make the best music when I am the least inhibited. My best music comes from late nights where I'm nearly ready to pass out, or just when I'm most relaxed and not worried.

Make a basis for the songs you want and then make it more complex. Are you wanting to write for only 1 guitar? Or for like a whole band?
