i started when i was a freshman in highschool which was like 8 years ago, holy fuck, and i just got better by playing constantly. online tabs helped as well as some pointers from various people along the way.

get used to fingerpicking if you want to play classical.

i would say learn the scales & chords and whatnot but i have a horrible way of being lazy and not doing it. i've gotten to the point that i rely more on my ear than my knowledge of theory.

i guess my best advice would be: have fun with it and don't get discouraged

ive been playing 4 years, now i cant belive how hard it was for me to play bar chords when i first learned them.. its weird

I need to learn more scales. Learning new scales can do wonders for songwriting.

I play classical. Ive also developed a technique to play the classical guitar while banging cymbals which are strapped to the insides of my legs, to give a percussion aspect to my playing.

I'm thinking of getting an acoustic soon, anyone have suggestions of some fairly cheap ones that sound really good for their price. I'd want a steel string.

I've been playing for awhile, not nearly as much as I should these days. Having people to jam with always helps with motivation, its a great feeling to be able to come together and create something as a whole.
I have an Aussie-made Maton Mastersound (very popular guitar here) and a Laney VC30 which I think is one of the sweetest combos around, I love this thing to bits.

Have a look at www.wholenote.com it has lots of stuff and some good exercises for all levels of ability.
Also www.mysongbook.com has lots of tabs, some of them quite good - you just need a copy of their tab software, Guitar Pro.

But yep, chords and chords, scales and scales... really important stuff if you want to be able to write songs and improvise and figure out how to play songs on your own.

oh. I used to be able to pop 4 mg's and not feel anything from them. Tolerance builds up quick.
