Now my guitar sounds like shit... the distortion is so weak even when i turn it up all the way. before, when the sstrings were lower it was a beautifull destorion, now it just sucks... wat do u think happend?

just put the action back and deal with the buzz, its a poorly made guitar.. many are. Next time you buy one make sure you thoroughly play it before buying.

Don't listen to this guy; He clearly doesn't know what he is talking about.

It could be an actual fret problem. If that is the case, your best bet would be to have a professional fret dress your guitar, or atleast level out that fret.

You could try to lower the action to where it still sounds good, but doesn't buzz.

Be careful about what you are doing to your bridge/neck. You don't want to mess up the intonation of your guitar.

The good distortion you got was due to the strings being closer to the pups, thus more gain; If you're gonna make the action higher move the pups too to retain the gain.

About the buzz problem, most probably it's the neck. Make a professional check out the truss rod aligment or do it yourself if you feel confident. Be aware that this adjusment CAN destroy your neck forever.

Hope that helps someway  Don't hesitate to ask how to go about doing those things if needed.

i agree with shred its probably a fret problem especcially if it occurs in only some notes...

Depends on what notes are actually buzzing. If it's mostly the first or last frets it's almost for sure the neck, either too rigid or to flexed. If it's more or less aleatory it's the frets, but that's a problem not even common. I mean, if it's more than a 200? guitar the frets are gonna be good enough. The neck, however, it's a more delicate subject and even with temps and humidity changes it can develop problems that didn't exist before... and you're not gonna find a good neck on a 200? guitar :smirk:

I don't see why my advice was bad. Are you saying its not a poorly made guitar? I wouldn't recommend him mess with his neck because he knows even less than me.. lol

if it is a cheap guitar is it worth getting professionally fixed?

Doesn't matter

the last question was for everyone, is it worth getting a cheap guitar looked at by a professional for a fret buzz? personally I wouldn't... but it might not be a cheap guitar.

every insturment has its own qualitys... I used to gig on an old LB benge trumpet cause I liked it better than my bach strad 43. My strad is worth ~$1500 where as I bought the benge for $100.

Well... it depends on the quality of the guitar and the quality of the one repairing it :smirk:

My tech wanted 60? for putting the neck of my strat in good shape, but then again, he's said to be the best here in Spain... I wouldn't go for less.
But if it were my mom's Aria por II (:smirk:) I wouldn't...

Now, a refret IS hella expensive, sometimes more than a good guitar. So, if the buzz is horrible then I'd buy a new neck. A great new 1 piece maple neck costs about 200?... sometimes a refret would be more, and indeed is no garantee that it'd sound great afterwards anyway.

But anyway, I don't think his guitar needs a refret. That is veeeery uncommon, and I don't think he has had that guitar for 10 years really...

What kind of pups are they? Single coils? Hummbuckers? Can you post a pic?

Are they like this?

If so, you just rotate the screws at the sides of it, so it decreases the distance between the strings and the magnetic poles (the iron thingies on top of it). Do it while you're playing with the distortion on, give the screws 1/4 of a turn, play, repeat... until you find the sweet spot you're looking for  Repeat this with every pup. Hope that made sense?

Don't be afraid, it's very very very easy. Just give it gentle turns, try at least 1/4 of a turn, you'll see it's no prob, and you'll probably fin a lot of new sounds. Just don't give it 20 turns

BTW, gorgeous guitar, how much did it cost?

I think if a guitar plays/sounds good...then I will try to keep it in good shape.

I used to be a snob and would only go for USA guitars and custom guitars. Just recently, I bought a 260 dollar cort guitar as a "beater". The thing has a solid agathis (similar to mohagany) body. Granted it isn't going to be as high quality parts as my americans....but it still plays/sounds great. (Just wanna put in an original floyd to make it rip ).

If your neck IS warped at all, I suggest getting someone who knows what they're doing to adjust the truss rod.

Happy shredding fellas!
