I am on the edge of purchasing a Mesa Boogie Rocket 44, 40 watt all tubes for 600$. They were discontinued a few years ago due to low sales.. its in perfect condition with a couple month old tubes. What do you guys think about mesa's??? I played some nomads and a 30 watt at guitar center and I think they sound great

Mesa's are overrated period. They have a stupid policy that bans other stores within a 50 mile radius of the mesa retailer (guitar center) from selling Mesa gear. It's bullshit cause it keeps the competition out. Furthermore, prices on mesa stuff is locked in, meaning there is no way for you to get a discount price, even the salesman cannot get a discount on mesa stuff. If you happen to see a discount mesa piece at 'guitarget' (guitar center) I know from my experience working there that the discount mesa is always a damaged piece or a refurb. Every mesa item I have ever sold was always returned within the week because of some problem (mostly because of tube issues, and shitty foot switches). I recommend going with something else that has a better price which can be negotiated

how many mesas have you sold? theres no way they can possibly be as unreliable as you make them sound. I mean, hundreds of musicians that regularly tour the world use mesa amps...so i always figured they were sturdy.

Good amps, definitely way too much money though. Not worth it in my opinion.

I've sold 6, keep in mind with the exception of 1 they were all the refurb discount one's. The new one was a triple rec. after having it sent back in for repairs 2 times the customer gave up on it. Since then I have done my best to point people in other directions, but after putting up with the corperate bullshit of guitarget i quit. If you want try out a great amp with a good price (always push for the 5% of course) try the Palamino's by crate. I know ppl give crate bad reviews, but their palamino's are terrific certainly my fav tube amp so far.

Sorry if i exaggerated a bit, but i try to think of it this way.. did Michael Jordan wear the shoes he endorsed that rolled out of the factory, or did he most likely commission some italian shoe maker a couple grand to make em'? I guess what I'm sayin is the pro's probably have their mesa's built by the owner of boogie to their specs. But then again maybe not, its just that I have had a bad experience with Boogie so it has probably skewed my opinion of em

Our lead guitarist played through a mesa triple rectifier for 3 years.. it never bitched out on him, and he abused the fuck out it on many shows and rehearsals. That thing cranks like a mother fucker and has both amazing distortion and clean channels.. something most amps severely lack. Either it has a twangy clean channel, or the distortion channel is pussy. The distortion channel on the triple rectifier is fucking corpse-grinding crunchathon.. you can blast coliseums with that thing. I've heard some people having problems with their triple recs.. but this thing was fucking solid all the way around. If it wasn't for the $2,000 price tag it would be one of the sweetest guitar amps around.
That being said, the guitar players both switched to Line 6 (Vettas) a few years ago, and love them. I play bass through a Gallien-Krueger 1001 RB head and a Hartke 4.5XL cab. Sweet combination.
