Apple seeds also contain the toxin that breaks down into cyanide.

However the concentraion is so low you would have to eat several cups of apple seeds for a lethal dose. Im guessing the same goes with cherry pits. One or two pits will not kill you i have eaten more than a dozen at once believe it or not i am no super man...

well apparently it's 30 G's of cherry pits but they're pretty hard nd condensed i'd think it would be 1 or 2 idk it seemed semi-reliable as the source

Oh yes the cyanide thing. I've heard the same thing for Apple seeds. From what I remember looking into this while I was in horticulture school, you're far more likely to die from choking on fruit seeds than you are from being poisoned by them. And a cursory Google search just now says the same about cherry seeds.

I'm pretty sure it'd take more than two ground up cherry pits to kill an adult. I could be wrong but I was under the impression that you'd need much more than that.

How much Cyanide does a cherry pit containe?

Its a good read.

Apparently, cherry seeds have about 0.8 mg HCN (hydrogen cyanide) per gram of seed, and itt takes about 30mg of HCN to get to the lethal range of killing a person (according to the artofdrink article).

So, do the math, its like 30 cherry seeds to almost kill a person.

1 mole HCN is only 27 grams 1 mole of nicotine is 162.23 grams so it is actually less toxic than hydrogen cyanide.

Cyanoglycosides are found in a all your pitted fruits. Cherries, apricot, peach, plum. However,these seeds have been designed by evolution to pass through an animals digestive tract unscathed so that the animal will shit out the seed and propagate the plant.

In the case of almonds and cherries, the glycoside uses cynaide to link glucose with benzaldehyde. Glucose is what give a cherry its sweetness and benzaldehyde is what gives cherries their smell and taste. Oh fun fact.: almond and cherry flavors are the same.
