Thid is my first casing to make it to the pining stage. They are Cambos cased in coir.

possibly a little overlay, but it will definitly fruit. I'd deep scratch after the first flush and then patch case. This should give you a larger yield...

Could you explain please.
I understand that patching is just putting more casing material where the shrooms come off the case. I have never heard of doing a "deep scratch".

That's where you lightly drag a fork or similar object across the service of the casing breaking up any overlay.

Can you dunk the case after the first flush? If so, how do you dunk it? just put the whole thing in a big pot of water.

how long do you let the case sit in the water? Just like you would a cake for 12-24 hours?

I just stumbled over this post.
A friend of mine has a simliar looking casing (but with much less mycel poking
through the surface (maybe 15% coverd, and there are also already pins visible)

He is concerned, that the casing might be contaminated, because there are
2 different colors of the casing (bright white and grey) exactly like in the
pic, that you made from your casing.

Could this be contamination, or is this 2 color mycel normal for casings?

it's normal,it only looks gray because it's not dense and the dark coir underneath shows thru...making it appear gray.
cobweb looks totaly different from myc,you'll know straight away if you ever see the stuff.

deep scratch means take a fork or something like that and scratch the top of the casing, this should help you get a better pin set. Make sure it is sterile before you do that. After you scratch it make sure you add some more vermiculite or whatever you use to cover the top. That should help out.
