Bad world for poor people
    #2210142 - 12/30/03 05:05 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Let us turn back the pages of history for a moment...all the way back to the year 1886. Imagine for a moment, yourself - walking through the dingy rain-soaked backstreets of London, England.

Where there is money to be made, it must be made. And the most lowly, sickly occupations must be filled by the most desperate and unskilled.

one of these occupations is that of the "Night Cabbie".

This occupation demands a man who is willing to roam the dark streets, cold and hungry, searching for drunkards to take home. Forced to whip the weakened back of an old horse, the steed of apocalyptic misery in order to feed his 4 children and wife at home.

"This aint an easy world"

The cabbie and his horse both have jagged ribs portruding from their malnourished frame, a man - forced to enslave and beat a beast - so he can profit off alcoholism - in order to feed his starving children.

Intelligent Design? God? What have you?

-----word up to Joseph Conrad.

Karma?

maybe you should go back in time and try not having children pre-birth control.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I would.

I will do so first thing in the morning. Or the morning after that.

That's not the point, Positronius. That's not what karma is about. And if someone is experiencing karma, that is not to say another takes pleasure in it. Or doesn't feel remorse for it. It just provides understanding, otherwise we'd go crazy for all the pain that seems unjustifiably and randomly inflicted on us.

But you don't understand rape.

edit: meant to say "you don't understand karma"

See, this is what I'm always trying to say about these silly beliefs. He says it right there that we "need" karma to console ourselves. For example, when a little kid gets raped, and we have no explanation and no way to explain why this happened, we can blame the child that it happened to. We can sit him on our collective knee and tell him it's because he was a bad man in a past life.

Saying "karma" is just providing an explanation, if you want to try to understand why things happen, not so we can sit around and shrug our shoulders when someone gets raped.

I wouldn't even propose to say that to a rape victim. I'm just trying to understand why things happen the way they do.

A baby that died of SIDS at 3 months old. Wouldn't Cayce say that that spirit fulfilled all it needed to fulfill in order to complete its life at that moment, and that's why it died? It probably cleared up all its negative karma, and had gone through all the lifetimes it had to go through, and doesn't need to stay here any more. It's moved on.
