Okay, now I can't sleep. Thanks. You bastards.

Great anecdote, Landotter. You saved the life of your friend. Cheers. It's just that I have little use for such heartwarming tales (heartwarming as they may be) in a world where we have twice the food to sustain the entire world population, yet 40 000 little children are starving each day. Get that?

The arrogance is amazing. "Look, I'm saving the world. You don't. Look, I care. You don't." I will go with Swami here, and argue straightforward that this kind of arrogance is part of the problem. You would be surprised at what I am doing, and how much I'm committed to it. But I don't feel the need to boast about my accomplishments, since this will neither get others to do the same, nor help me getting over that ego problem. I don't feel the need to videotape it, either. Do something, or don't. In both cases, just shut the fuck up about it.

"Well, you know, you better free your mind instead." - John Lennon.

The arrogance is amazing. You protest at G8 meetings? Uh-huh. Big deal. I'm sure that will save the world.

Yet I'm sure everyone here (and anywhere else, for that matter) spends his whole life doing things. If you have a problem with what people are doing, then it is exactly just that, namely, your problem. Do something about it.

The point rests that every revolution in the human history has failed miserably in the long run. If this one should accidently succeed, no doubt it will work by such a radically different process that neither you nor anyone else is able to comprehend it beforehand. This is the onset of the trip, where you feel a little sick in the stomach, and a little anxious, and a little nervous. You might be tempted to push things a little. You might be tempted to use your fingernails. But rest assured that the peak will come soon enough, and it will blow you away.

The cicada story was a follow-up to Maia, who made a very valid point:

Making an anlogy, the baby is confortable and warm inside the mothers womb, he will suffer at birth and after birth, he's reluctant to go out but he will after 9 months. Have we reached our 9th month ?

Things will happen when they are meant to happen. Babylon will fall. How could it be different? As they said in one of the Highlander movies, "Nothing is for eternity."

And then there's Terence McKenna: "It is too late for politics. It is too late for science. If the world is to be saved, it will happen by magic." Indeed, by magic. I imagine it to happen by the same  magical process by which a cicada spreads its wings and flies into the morning sun. It might not be a pretty thing to watch, especially when the cicada is stuck in her dead skin. But you better keep your dirty fingernails out of that mess.

Project much?
I got no arrogance from Landotter's (finally realized there's not another L in there  :smirk:) post...
Maybe he was just offering an example of what he has done.

"Project Nomad." Man, that was a fucking great computer game. Anyone remembers that?

Arrogance, like in:

"I'm just trying to get people to pick up their feet and get going. Stop living half lives on the SP&S and do something with all these questions."

But, yeah, I agree. He's a nice person overall. I'm just fucking tired. Wrong time zone.

Tread very lightly on the "personalisms", Nomad.

Attack the ideas not the idear, if you catch my drift.

All viewpoints are necessary but not all comments are.

Cheers

btw I loved your post other than the personalisms.

No.

Your viewpoints are too much to lose over silly suggestions like the "Policy".

Perhaps, for those who like Chaos, we can hold a "policy-free" day if the regs think it's a good idea.

Cheers

Well, I figure ya gotta start somewhere, Nomad and that might as well be at home with your friends and family. Perhaps the reason we have all these starving children is because not enough people showed compassion in the little things. Everything ripples outward.

"Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in humanity."
-- John Donne

I think we have the same idea about this but this whole threads been pretty fiery and its hard to see through the heat waves. Chances are good I was perhaps not as clear as possible.

Yeah, I agree, don't talk about it, do it. That was my whole original point. As in "don't talk on the net all the time, go out and do in reality."

Um.

I'm glad you're doing things, Nomad. That's extra-cool.

I will try and answer this better tomorrow. I gotta go back-up the mainframe right now and reset the power couplings. Then some sleep, maybe.

Later my brothers!
