Encouraging Underage Kids On Shroomery Would Save Lives
    #22055327 - 08/06/15 08:03 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

So I know for a fact that a bunch of kids have shroomery accounts because ive meet a few in real life. One day I was walking down the street and I saw some kid looking at mushrooms he was like 14 I stopped and said "what's up" out of general interest in the fungus and the kid said he was "admiring the mushrooms" (which I knew were agaricus) so I told them what they were then he said "well im going to check with this website I know" thats when I found out a 14 year old was a member of shroomery it kinda surprised me and my brothers friend (who is 14) says he is on here all the time doing the same thing.

But the thing is if kids couldn't use this site they could never get a proper ID which would be worse than them eating some shrooms (something ive done since I was 14). So seeing as shroomy is not completely focused on "stoner propaganda" and can actually save a novices life why do we not allow kids? Like I get they should not be eating shrooms but still having a proper resource about the effects or what their eating could possibly save their life which is not worse than them tripping. My brother is 15 and he hangs out with this stoner kid who smokes me down and hooks me up with L (he is like 16 and his moms a deadhead who has L laying around) from time to time but one day we blazed a bowl and he found some mushroom he called "chicken of the woods" and ate it right in front of me it was gone before I could blink. I had a stern talking to this kid luckily he was right they were gymnopilus junonius which are active but still kids who do this shit need to know about this shit.

So why is it a rule that they can't be here because they still do shrooms and hunt them as well so having an age limit seems like something keeping them from info they need. what do you guys think?  (on a side note dont go telling kids to join that's against the rules this post is more of a question as to why it is when it could save lives and I never encourage kids to join because the mods would be so madddd)

Kids can just lie and get on the site or lurk anyways. The shroomerys ass is covered legally this way. That's my guess.

Im not under age and im not breaking any rules im just trying to see what the logic behind not letting kids have access to harm reduction tools (this site) is because someone tripping even an underage kid is better than a dead kid.

So either you are under age which is the mostly likely or you get drug hook ups from  kids which is pretty scummy.

So are you some scummy 20 something that hangs out with kids

You have two choices choose wisely

Is it illegal for them to be on here? I see no good reason why they would make a law like that.

The information on the site is available to underage users, they just aren't allowed to join and ask questions for legal liability reasons (i.e. if they do something stupid the parents might sue.) In practice quite a few members here are probably underage, and as long as they don't make this fact obvious, they don't put the site staff in a position where they must ban them to protect the site legally.

I would say op is most likely somewhere between the ages of 25-50 with a Harvard law degree and a whole plethora of credentials.

Do you think everyone who views porn is 18 or older?

Op is 15.

True it just seems like a dumb rule because of the kids eating random mushrooms and having little to no other ID forums. But you're right it doesn't really matter I was mostly curious as to why they put the rule there in the first place.

Yeah there could be a harm reduction advantage potentially, but if parents sue the fuck out of the site and it has to shut down then this advantage would be negated.

Yeah psi hit the nail on the head, the creator of the site and even the admins would probably prefer kids come here and get reliable information about what they're going to put in their bodies since they probably remember being younger and know they're going to do it anyway, so having legit information is definitely better than them getting misinformation. But now they can't say the website intended to "entice" or "persuade" someone who is underage to partake in illegal activities or whatever else some lawyer who plays magic with words can say.

I saw Asante say once in a "how old are you" thread that if you say you are under 18 without it being apparent that you were joking, they have no choice but to enforce it and ban the account...which to me translates to "don't admit you're under 18 if you are and you're good to go"

That and in case one of the users here gives some faulty ass information and gets someone underage hurt by spreading bullshit and the kid following the shitty advice then they can't blame the site for that either because they were believed to be an adult who is capable of making their own choices.

kids can learn all they need to know on the shroomery without registering or breaking the rules

so no. kids just need to learn to use the search function, or visit one of the other dozen websites dedicated to mushroom identification that dont require you to be 18. they will still happily identify psychoactive mushrooms in most cases

even reddits mushroom forums dont require you to be 18, and they are just as good if not better at identifying mushrooms, because there are so many more users and many of them also visit the shroomery

i'm of the opinion that the shroomery should enforce the shit out of the 18+ rule. this obviously isnt a site for kids.

its not just about mushrooms, its about mushrooms of the psychoactive variety. and even if that was the original intent of the website, like it or not the shroomery talks about all drugs in general now. along with lots of other adult content

Holy crap... do none of these kids realize that mushroom observer exists?

This site shouldn't cater to a bunch of kiddos who want to trip balls, the damage reduction info is available regardless of whether or not they can sign up.

If they really want an ID they should just go to the aforementioned forum, no need to come here asking "are these the kind I am looking for to ingest and experience a hallucinatory state?" You get solid answers and information that can lead you to understand more about mycology rather than the simple answer of "yep, you found drugs".
