Snoop Dogg was stopped by authorities with $422,000 in cash in his Louis Vuitton luggage on Saturday as he prepared to board a private jet to Britain from Italy. His lawyer said the money came from concerts the rapper had performed around Europe. The explanation did not keep Italian authorities from keeping half of the cash and opening an investigation so a fine can be determined, according to Yahoo! News on Saturday.

In the European Union, the maximum amount of undeclared cash someone can take on board a plane is much less than the amount Snoop Dogg had with him. During a security check before the rapper boarded his private jet, police confirmed that Snoop Dogg has a total of $422,000 in cash. Travellers within the European Union must declare any amount over $10,986 in cash as part of efforts to combat money laundering.

According to Reuters, Scoop's attorney Andrea Parisi said the rapper had performed two shows in the south of Italy and was on his way to the United Kingdom, where he is scheduled to perform at the Kendal Calling Festival. The rapper cooperated with authorities and only asked that he could leave as soon as possible for London so he could be on time for his next gig. Sky News reported that four lawyers have been assigned to the case and Snoop Dogg will be able to reclaim the rest of his money minus a fine set by magistrates.

This airport incident comes barely a week after the 43-year-old was arrested by police in Sweden on suspicion of using illegal drugs. He was detained briefly and released after taking a drug test. After that incident, Snoop Dogg vowed he will never return to Sweden. After his concert in London, Snoop Dogg has no more concerts scheduled in Europe.

I bet he loves it when different rules apply to him than to other people. I don't see how that would be justified though. Good job by the Italian police for at least making an attempt to uphold the equality of law.

To put it into a fair context, though, he was touring on private jets.  It's not like he was going through airport security.  He finishes a show, they hand him a stack of cash, and then he's whisked off to the next show.

His business people should have made arrangements to avoid this.
