    #2181371 - 12/15/03 11:36 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

Im curious.. scandisk recently told me it had found some bad clusters. now scandisk has been runnin for almost 3 weeks non stop and ive found over 20 thousand bad clusters.... and im fuckin tired of this shit. does anyone know of a faster way to get rid of these things? i tried even just using partition magic to resize my partition down to before the bad clusters start... tho it hasnt worked...
anyone have any experience with this?

low level format, it will remap the drive to avoid the bad clusters, alot of older systems had it built into the bios and most SCSI controllers can do it through their bios

Buy a new hard drive. The old one will just get worse.

Luck. There is a difference between loosing a cluster or two and having a few bad clusters turn into thousands upon thousands of bad clusters which is what the original poster described. Unless you are backing up your data on a regular basis, I would switch out a drive with bad clusters as soon as I detected them. I am talking about real damage to the hard drive lost clusters and not the corrupt filesystem type of lost clusters.

Yep, it'll only get worse. Think of bad sectors as terminal cancer of your HD. It's time for a new one. The good news is if you wait till after Xmas, you can probably get a great deal!
