Overclocking
    #2179457 -

I am interested in finding out how to overclock a CPU. It's a celeron 800 mhz. Does anyone have any recommended sites to goto for overclocking help? Thanks.

Hi how's it going, wanna kick Heroin basically painlessly on your own, in your own house, without any government "help" ,or the "help" of a crazy condescending, judgmental medical doctor? Read this:

Did build your computer or bought it pre-made like from dell or whatever? With dell computers, you don't have the option to change the voltage or the FSB. If you did build your computer and you did buy a decent motherboard, you can change it in the bios.

It's a bullshit pre-made HP Pavillion model XG843. I have no idea what motherboard it has. How do I find out?

Then once I know what motherboard it is what should I do? Thanks.

Well restart your computer. then press the key you need to enter into the bios setup. could be delete, f2, f10, could be anything, if you don't know, www.google.com or look in your manual. Then you can go in and look at the settings. Then I suggest that you build your next computer with good parts.

Just use the jumpers to increase the clock multiplier speed. There should be a chart on the inside of the case cover. Example clock multipliers could be 4x, 4.5x, 5x, etc. Note your current clock speed and increase in incriments of .5x and boot into windows until the desired speed is reached. I'm sure you could even increase the clock speed depending on the processor. But beware the enemy of overclockers: heat. If at some point your computer won't boot, go back down .5x, and if that doesn't fix it stay with the default setting.

Socket 370
100 MHz FSB

Chipset
Intel 810

Motherboard manufacturer
Trigem

Cache
Level
Quantity

Level 1 (Primary)
32 KB (on processor)

Upgrade Sockets
None

Level 2
128 KB (on processor)

BIOS/Software Build ID

So, can it be overclocked?

That would work great...if he had an AMD. Intel doesn't use CPU multipliers.

Odd, all the intel machines I have (from 100mhz on up) have a multiplier.

Celerons are great for overclocking.

your right, sorry, I meant to say that, CPU multipliers are locked on all intels after PII, so you can only use FSB overclocking.

After doing some quick research, you can't over clock those types of computers. Nearly all production model(HP, Gateway, Dell) motherboards, are designed to resist overclocking. They're not handled to dissapate the extra heat generated from overclocking, and not to mention if done incorrectly you will fry your processor. The easiest way to overclock your computer is to replace the motherboard with something more respectable, like asus, abit, giga-byte, etc.

Those assholes! hehe

I opened the comp and looked at the motherboard. I do not even see any switches that could be changed. I guess it can't be done, at least not easily.

I wouldn't mind getting a new motherboard. This would best be discussed in a new thread. Thanks for the overclocking help all!

What you could use is a software based program such as SoftFSB which allows you to make FSB changes via windows rather than BIOS, it dosent work on all computers but ive seen it work on some HP's Compaq's ect. Worth a shot, you wont get the 50% overclocks but its a start.

but if it does work, you'll probably need more adequate cooling, or you'll fry your processor.

If it does work he'll be upping the fsb by less than 10, wont be touching the voltage and is unable to touch the multiplyer, if the temperature went up 2 degrees I'd be suprised.
