Having lived and spoken a lot with a fairly high up former member of Scientology... the point of the religion is not so much the xenu shit... it is a technological pyramid scheme in which you can pay or volunteer with the church to gain more levels and more access to higher technologies. They specialize in techniques to facilitate past life remembrances, along with devices that use vibrational resonances in the body to remove disease/parasites... among a lot of other things we didn't ever get to - but yeah. It's about the technology not the beliefs.

But because the technology's fake it is therefore a part of the beliefs. Why? Because if you don't already believe in past lives (for instance) then you won't believe some random people who say they can let you relive one for enough money.

They're no more crazy than any religious person. Some religious people are like these Mormons, the kind that are actually beneficial to society. They're nice to be around even if you think they're completely insane in regards to their beliefs. Because it doesn't matter how someone thinks the universe works, only how they work in the universe.

The missionaries that I've been meeting with have made it fairly clear, or so I've interpreted, that you must follow the prophet and the entire church is founded on a modern-day prophet. As I understand it, he gives revelation and he is the one who decides , Or "receives a revelation from God" about the doctrine of the church. Also, they believe that after you die you will be able to become a god and  have your planet and there you will forever make your own family with new Celestial children. I don't  understand how they would allow gay and lesbian couples if that is one of the main doctrines of their church.

One more thing,  does your girlfriend have the priesthood? I was told that women can't receive the priesthood.  This again would make it impossible for lesbian couples.
