How do they afford to go absurd pilgrimages and knock on everyone's doors if they aren't getting paid? Do Mormons pay out of pocket to ride around on bikes and shove religion down people's throats? I don't get that shit.

I mean when they're on the actual pilgrimages or whatever the fuck they call those things. The church makes them fly out and life in different areas going door to door preaching. I don't see how that's sustainable.

They should sell cookies. I'd probably listen to the word of Jesus Christ for some thin mints and let's be honest, those cracker wafers the Christian religions give out suck. So they have a one up in that respect as well.

The mormon church is basically like a gang everyone pays a cut up the ladder if you dont they start fucking up you shit really bad. They make money by selling things like beer and gambling machines n stuff. Its basically a huge racket to keep a select few high church figures wealthy and very very powerful.

So do the churches pay for these members pilgrimages or do the followers pay out of pocket for this? It's my understanding that you have to do this and preaching the gospel is a right of passage.

Yeh you def have to do all the pilgrimages n mission work n stuff especially when you super young how else would they indoctrinate the childern? If you dont theyll jus fuck all your families shit up. Everyone pays one way or another!

The members rather tend to be successful business people because they don't do a lot of self destructive hedonist shit that destroy other people.  I also believe they practice tithing.

Dude they're just tricking you with verbage. The "missionaries" are most certainly supported by the church. I've been meeting with them talking theology for like 2 months now. They all are supported by the church.

i've learned a lot about the mormon faith in the past couple of years because my girl's mormon (whereas i'm agnostic). she says the church relies on donations like any other church but their bishop has a day job as well. all of the members share the duties in that regard from my impression. in addition to the bishop, people are called on to take turns speaking at church. it's very communal. she also claims her church is politically progressive. for example, from what i'm told, they fully support gay rights and think gays deserve equal protection under the laws, i.e. the right to marry. i've pointed out that this is in staunch opposition to the main LDS church's position on gay rights, but she insists that's their position. it almost seems like every mormom church is its own thing to a certain extent. and in this case, this one seems like a group of well intentioned, highly charitable people.

as far as the missionaries go, i don't think the kids on bikes get paid for what they do. they've also always been really nice the few times i've had them knock on my door. there's probably funding for international missionaries, but that's an entirely different game from my impression.

that seems to be the root of why anyone takes up missionary work.

i had just as bad a taste in my mouth about mormons as any rational person would before meeting her. i still think the LDS church is monstrous politically, but i've dropped the belief that all mormons are bad. it's silly when you think about it. the catholic church is probably the worst player of this game and it seems to me by now that most people tend to distinguish the church's political presence from its devotees.

my girl can bake like nobody's business.

Well, from what the two missionaries have told me, the missions are funded by the church. Millsy, those are very interesting things to hear. The missionaries that I've been meeting with have made it fairly clear, or so I've interpreted, that you must follow the prophet and the entire church is founded on a modern-day prophet. As I understand it, he gives revelation and he is the one who decides , Or "receives a revelation from God" about the doctrine of the church. Also, they believe that after you die you will be able to become a god and  have your planet and there you will forever make your own family with new Celestial children. I don't  understand how they would allow gay and lesbian couples if that is one of the main doctrines of their church.

One more thing,  does your girlfriend have the priesthood? I was told that women can't receive the priesthood.  This again would make it impossible for lesbian couples.

Yeah they don't sell anything at your door so not soliciting technically. Plus it's in their religion so even if it was soliciting pretty sure freedom of religion would trump some petty ass city ordinance.
