Fuck, am I diabetic?

My girlfriend is.
I randomly felt weird and asked to used her One Touch Verio IQ tester to see. My blood sugar was first 235 and 240 and she assumed a fluke, because I'm skinny and never had problems before.
An hour later though, was at 250.
She says "Well the battery is low maybe it's off" and I'm here freaking out right now.
What do you think I should do? Oh, no insurance, no money, so idk. Fuck it

That definitely need to be checked out. If you live in the states and you're poor, you can usually get some sort of Medicaid.

She's probably right if you're young, healthy and don't have a family history of it. But if you're exhibiting any of these symptoms, you may want to get that checked out. http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-basics/symptoms/

Actually have none of those symptoms.
I am going to a local pharmacy for a test and then retest at another if I test again (seeing her tomorrow) and it's in bonkers range.

Yeah, you have the main symptom of diabetes... A blood glucose level that is 2.5 times higher than normal.
Any random reading over 200 is an automatic diagnosis of diabetes.
If the machine isn't broken, and it isn't some astronomically unlikely coincidence that your blood sugar levels spiked twice exactly as you took the test, those numbers are very serious. You are accruing creeping permanent physiological damage with your blood sugar so far out of whack.
You need medical attention ASAP. 250 is an extremely high number. Your blood can be becoming acidic at that level causing a diabetic coma. People with untreated glucose levels that high don't tend to live very long.
ITS VERY IMPORTANT YOU UNDERSTAND THAT SYMPTOMS ARE IRRELEVANT TO YOUR SITUATION. YOUR BLOOD SUGAR IS DANGEROUSLY HIGH.

i'm diabetic, and no, just because your sugar level was high doesn't mean that. everyones blood sugar rises if they have eaten, your natural insulin doesn't take effect instantly. the fact that it was still that high an hour later is a troubling sign though. you should check it in the morning before eating anything, that'll give you your best estimate.

Do this and if its still high you prob need to see the doc at least once to know what type you have. If its type 1 you need insulin in case you spike up high so you dont end up like the guy from con air. If its type 2 then you can control it with diet and exercise only I think.

One reading above 200 is concerning, whether they have just eaten or not, but a second reading an hour later is EXTREMELY troubling. The body should be able to keep blood sugar under 200 at all times, even if the person is eating spoonfuls of sugar. Insulin response is very rapid to even small changes in blood sugar in non diabetic people.
OP definitely needs to check his numbers in the morning. Anything over 130 is serious after a few hours without any caloric intake.
OP make sure your hands are clean. It is possible to get really out of whack readings if you have sugary food residue in the area where you prick your finger.

Yeah you need a fasting blood sugar and an A1c test done asap. Diabetes is no joke.

I'm assuming you're young, OP, and that means this could be the onset of type 1 diabetes. Go to the doctor ASAP. Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune disease and they can confirm it with a blood test for the antibodies that destroy the insulin producing pancreas cells (anti-islet autoantibodies). You definitely don't want to leave this untreated. I'd bite the bullet and just pay for the first appointment, but Get some insurance now. If you end up with type 1, you're going to have monthly expenses for meds that will exceed $200 (no insurance), and that doesn't include appointment costs. I'm using some cheap obama care (about $170 per month) for my diabetic shit, and it almost doesn't completely suck.
Don't fret though. This disease is very manageable when you get it figured out, and you'll be able to live a long and healthy life that's pretty close to a normal one. I've been diabetic for 23 years, and I'm healthier than most.
EDIT: I should clarify. There are two types of diabetes: Type 2 and type 1. Type 2 is the kind where you don't respond well to your own endogenous insulin. It can often be controlled with diet. Type 1 is the kind where you stop producing all endogenous insulin and you need to take shots to make up for it.
Other things besides diabetes can also cause hyperglycemia, and, as far as I know, they're all bad. Just go to the doctor and get a full checkup. This needs to be fixed.

That's high. Did you just eat before? How long ago before you tested did you eat and what was it? Carbs? Junk or fast food?
My mom has diabetes, gma has it, my gpa had it, I'm sure in 5 years ill get it but when I have my seizures and they test my sugar it's usually in the 90's, but my uncle has it really bad. His is almost always in the 300-500 range first thing in the AM.
I'd go to the doctor and get some tests done.

Thankfully, diabetes doesn't run in my family and I'm not obese and inactive, and my sugar checks out okay. Small comfort considering heart disease and cancer run in my family and men in my family tend to die young, but you take what you can get.

Don't forget test strips. A month supply of those at around 5-7 strips a day are fucking expensive.
I pay about $200 a month total with shit insurance. About $45 each for humalog (about $80 w/o insurance) and lantus (about $130 w/o insurance), $30-40 for syringes, and I can't remember what I payed for my last batch of test strips since I have a bit of a stockpile right now, but a month's supply of those can easily be around $200-300 without insurance (there are cheaper ones for somewhere under $150 or so a month though). I had methimazole for graves disease for a while too, but that was only about $35 or so a month.
With insurance it totals somewhere just under $200. Without it it would be around $500 a month. If you factor in the insurance cost, the prices are pretty comparable. If you include medical appointments, then it's a win for me. Type 1 diabetics pretty much need health insurance in most places in the US. Sometimes I wish I were Canadian .
