Some dark poetry

I wrote this song after my brother died of a `stereo' (iv heroin,cocaine) overdose back in 98...I think most everyone can relate to this theme....

THE DEMON


The days are getting shorter,
The years are going fast,
Your childhood illusions,
Have been shattered like cheap glass,
Your mind is dull and empty,
Your soul is parched and dry,
You throw your head into your hands,
And ask the reason why?

(CHORUS)

It`s the Demon,
Deep inside,
and it`s feeding,
On your mind,
Its general is fear,
And its army is despair,
And its laughing cause the battles won,
And you don`t even care!

The bottle`s sitting on the shelf,
The pills are in a drawer,
The needle`s in a little box,
Beneath the tile floor,
You can buy synthetic happiness,
But when the party`s done,
Your soul is shriviling,
Like a raison,
Drying in the sun.

The T.V. preacher tells us,
All will be well,
Send a hundred dollars,
and he`ll block the gates to hell,
But his mind is full of poison,
And his followers are blind,
He`s not offering salvation,
Just another place to hide.

You sit back and ponder bout,
The things that could have been,
The presents going nowhere,
The futures looking grim,
Self pity grows inside yourself,
A cancer that wont heal,
And the beast inside is howling,
With the power that it feels.

It says that life is meaningless,
As only it can tell,
Why bother go on trying,
When your already down in hell,
So you reach out and clutch yourself,
Onto its boney breast,
And go laughing with the demon,
In a screaming dance of death!

You may think the beast invincable,
But it`s built on hate and lies,
The spirit is within us,
To make it scream and die,
With Love and Hope,
The sword of soul,
The war can still be won,
As the stranglehold of horror melts,
From the spirits smoking gun

And its the Demon,
Deep inside,
And its feeding,
On your mind,
It`s general is fear,
And its army is despair,
But the laugh will choke,
Within its throat,
If you could only care

That sucks about the OD :thumbdown:  I really like that poem.  It seems im feeling just like that right now.  That would be a great song.

I really like this stanza:

it just flows really well--the whole thing does.
The best art comes from experience, as sad as the experience was, the art that resulted is great.

The song of poetry makes meanings sublime and so transforms an otherwise tragic event. It certainly sounds like it could be music.

Thanx for the input...death and sorrow is a bummer, but good things can rise from it. When my brother died, it awoke emotions that I never felt before...painfull, but I was gratefull to know I was capable of feeling them..and those new feelings made it possible to write... The powers that be take things away, but have plenty to give back...creation never dies.
The poem is actually a song...the progression simple, yet ominous and mysterious sounding...It has created some memorable jam sessions...I`ll include it here...4/4 timing with a minor doom feeling..

Blastid...if you like the tv preacher stanza..you`ll like this one..its from an unfinished song..

And tell you to be their sheep just like the others,

Then sell you to the slaughterhouse,
For power or wealth,
So listen to men of knowledge,
But dont take their word as law,
Hitler and Jim Jones have many brothers.
