$5 dinners?
    #21493593 -

So ive been making sausage with pasta for a while. Deoending on the store, it can range from $5-$7 and can feed two people. Takes 30 min to cook and it just seems to work well. Plus you cant beat something for $5.

That got me wondering what else there is that feels like a legit meal without costing too kuch.

what do you guys make when money is tight?

Black beans and rice with chicken or some shit. Meat and potatoes.

Various soups and stews are pretty cheap per serving.

You can make a soup or stew for ~10$ then eat off it for a couple days.

hairy sausege is good stuff, shroomapotomus was just posting about it earlier

as far as cheap meals go that are decent, there are too many to count. a deli turkey sandwich with regular white bread and mustard is like 1.50 if you buy a whole pound of turkey at once. 2.00 if you add some kinda chips or junk food too it

sandwiches with deli meat are just cheap in general, unless you use a ton of meat

If you're into eating offal, or even if you're not used to it but don't mind trying out new things, you'll be amazed at how well you can eat for so cheap.

For example a couple nights ago I bought 1 1/2 pounds of chicken hearts for $1.71.
Chicken hearts if you're not familiar with them are really tender, have a texture almost like a soft sausage, and taste like "beefy" chicken if that makes sense.

So that with a side of some greens like asparagus, swiss chard, etc (those are just my favorites) comes out to less than a dollar per serving, and it's downright delicious.

Here's my recipe for chicken hearts if you're interested:

Get 1 1/2 - 2 pounds of chicken hearts (without gizzards), throw them in a ziploc bag.
Medium dice a large onion or a few shallots and mince 2-3 cloves of garlic and throw them in the bag as well.

Salt and pepper to taste, few dashes of Worcestire sauce, then finish it off with a good quality extra virgin olive oil. (around 3 tablespoons).

Massage them all up in that bag and let them marinate minimum an hour and up to 3 hours.

Then all you gotta do is throw that wonderful smelling mixture in a screaming hot pan and sautee for a few minutes, then finish it for another few minutes under the broiler. I like to throw in some bacon in there as well sometimes.

Enjoy & Buono appetito! :aum:

Sausage and peppers.

It's one of the few cheap meals I like.

You won't be able to get all the ingredients for 5 dollars, but per serving it should be cheaper than that.

I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today.
Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear.
I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear.

The cost of a pot of chili is low and you can freeze it.

Rice, rice, rice.

Super cheap and better than shitty noodles imo.

Stir fry some veggies and meat or whatever you want.

Soups and stews and cheap too.

Buy some dried beans, and soak them over night, change the water in the morning and soak again while you're at work/school. Good to go. Make into a chili, soup/stew or cook them up with some other stuff and throw them on some rice.

All good ways to eat well on a tight budget.

Beans and rice feed most of the worlds population.

Asian and latin cuisine will give you tons of ideas for cheap and delicious food.

Add hot peppers to everything, obviously.

Grill 7 chicken breasts on sunday. Everyday make ramen noodles(3 mins) and chop up one chicken breast into cubes and slide it into the broth. Healthy meal, takes 5 minutes to make, delicious.
