It's not only creepy, rude, and disgusting, but it's also intimidating.  Women never know if the next guy who tells them to smile for them might fly off the handle if they refuse.  It happens all the fucking time.  Guys who feel entitled to comment on their bodies in public will often act entitled in other ways, and if they don't get the attention they feel they deserve, they sometimes get violent.

To get a sense of what it feels like for a guy, think of every prison movie you've seen, where the new inmate comes in and all the guys are whistling and hollering at him as the guards escort him to his cell.  Now, it's unlikely that every one of those guys is going to rape him, or even intends to.  Possibly none of them will.  But just think of the awkward humiliation you feel passing by those hungry eyes that have reduced him to a piece of meat.  Then you get some sense of what women deal with on a daily basis.

It's rude and disgusting coming from any stranger. It doesn't matter what they look like, it's pathetic. If you want to brighten someones day you compliment them in a respectful way, you don't treat them like a piece of meat. 

I had a guy "catcall" me and when I didn't respond, he starting yelling and cursing at me. It's not the only time it has happened either.

There's a nice polite way to tell a woman you think she's pretty. And it most certainly doesn't involve calling her "babe" or "baby" and it certainly doesn't involve any implications of what you'd like to do with her pretty face.

Alot of women have dealt with harassment and even stalking from being to nice to some guy. So alot of women ignore it. Attractive or not a stranger is still a stranger. There's a huge thread about this in the ladies forum if you'd like some female opinions about it.

once when i was 19 or so, i leaned against my horn while driving past an attractive female, and honked by accident.  I felt embarrassed and a bit creepy, so i threw it in reverse, rolled down the passenger window and told the girl that i honked at her by accident.  She looked pretty disappointed.

I lived downtown in a large city without a car for many years, so I was constantly walking the streets. I saw a woman being cat called once. And she was asking for it.

Much like I imagine all these girls are that complain about it happening all the time. If anyone went out roaming the streets with 80% of their legs showing, skin tight clothes showing 8 inches of cleavage, they would get attention over it. Get over it and quit dressing like a slut and then being upset over the attention you get about it.

And yeah, someone is probably going to say something about that dumb white bitch that recorded herself walking around Harlem getting cat called. "She was wearing jeans and a t shirt!" But that's Harlem. There's a lot of problems in black culture in inner cities, and that's one of them. But it's being presented as a problem with men, when it isn't at all.
