Do you find catcalling offensive? Primitive? Complimentary? Charming? I've never cat called anyone but every attractive female I know of suddenly seems to be 'speaking out' against it. I can't imagine it'd be intimidating or insulting, in fact I'd be happy to be cat called but then again I'm not an attractive female.

It doesn't really matter, if someone does it to them, they feel objectified and vulnerable, if someone doesn't do it to them they feel fat and unwanted.

It happens to me at gay clubs.

I can see how attractive females are very quickly fed up with that kind of shit.

As a dude I love it when girls catcall at me (and it does happen occasionally even though I'm not pretty). I always feel very complimented. Though when a guy does it to a girl, Usually I see the girl either ignore the catcalling or politely dismiss it with a bit of a sense of humor. They tend to ignore it in places like the bus or the street, but they seem to be more tolerant of it in places like bars where a little bit of flirting and rowdiness is expected. I don't think I've ever seen a girl get offended by it. My take on catcalling is that it's a way to playfully beg for rejection. Nobody's supposed to take it too seriously.

Even 3 or 4 times in row, or having it happen multiple times every day would get old quick. If it's happening 25 times on the way to work, then it's time to start wearing a fake beard on the commute.

haha, as a related experience, I used to walk through a part of a city that had a lot of young catholics in the demographic, and they would see me with my hair down and yell "Hey, Jesus!". It was the lamest catcalling ever. The 4th or 5th time it happened I bought a red baseball cap with devil horns and started wearing it. Problem solved. A hair tie also did the trick, but it lacked the attitude of the devil hat.

I remember back in the day my brother saying women secretly liked it, being the attention (hes happily married now, not through catcalling). But personally I avoided the practice unless an a-typical mindset got the better of me on occasion. On the norm I find it a kind of call for help. The person is really saying, 'Im physically attracted to you but dont know how else to initiate a conversation at this time, so this is the best I can do'

At least they tried I suppose; the worse decision would be to let someone you truly wanted to talk to (for whatever reason) get away. There are many better ways to get the result of a conversation, in my experience.

Ive never participated in catcalling before but as long as its done briefly and not offensively I dont really frown upon it.

Primitive and Disgusting.  It takes them out of whatever mental state they are currently in and makes them think of themselves the way you think of them.  It makes them feel like a body first, then a person.  Alienating them from themselves.

This, like when a girl's trying to look good and she walks up to you asking for you opinion. You can say "You look good." or you can catcall with something like "Damn! You look HOT! Wooo!".

or when a girl who you are friends with is in front of you and you catcall, and you whistle and she turns around expecting someone she doesnt know and its you and she beams cuz you were appreciating her.

it is a compliment, take it as such. usually bitches just try and act like they don't like it because it affects those base emotions, primordial sex drive stuff.

i don't enjoy it when i am working unless i am attracted back to the person but out and about why wouldn't you enjoy someone saying hey you are attractive.

that being said, nasty people and super sexual detailed comments stray into that unwell feeling.

gay men are notoriously sexual, gay bars are an cultural ingrained place to seek out sexual partners and alcohol generally brings out the less attractive in people.

that is why i put in that disclaimer of super sexual or nasty type people.

i do have to say though, you can't complain about having homosexuals hit on you while in a venue that completely serves that function.
