Absinthe

I just went out and bought a bottle of absinthe and made sure that it contained wormwood; however, once I came home, I read online that it's illegal to sell absinthe in the usa containing wormwood or thujone and that it's considered "adulterated"

The brand is viex carre absinthe, which seems to have fairly good reviews.
There website says "Vieux Carré is batch distilled using a “double maceration” process featuring the mysterious Grande Wormwood and Petite Wormwood. Green and Star Anise, Fennel Doux Provence, Melissa, Genepi, Hyssop and Spearmint complete the complex flavor profile. Vieux Carré is an original artisan spirit that combines historic processes with a modern expertise."  so I dunno about the wormwood illegality thing.



Has anyone felt any effects from absinthe other than the alcohol?  Or tried this specific brand?



I don't have the absinthe spoon or any sugar cubes so I'm using this method with granulated sugar

nope and nope. ive tried absynthe, and it was expensive. my buddy payed 45$ for the brand "Lucid Absynthe". we all had a good bit and got drunk as fuck being that it was like 130 proof, but none of us noticed any difference from regular alcohol, which was disappointed cause thats the only reason he bought it

maybe back in the 18th century people packed shittons of wormwood into their absynthe and it had a way higher ammount of thujone, but that just isnt the case anymore. even people who make their own report no different effects most of the time, and the people who do claim an effect are probably only feeling placebo

im guessing that in order to make legit absynthe with lots of thujone, you need to run/soak the alcohol through several batches of fresh wormwood to get the highest possible saturation of thujone

from what i hear, by the time you've consumed enough wormwood to have psychoactive effects, you've consumed so much alcohol that you're too drunk to notice

maybe the thujone has a long halflife or cumumlative effects. after all, the famous people who drank it in the 17/1800s drank it exclusively, and were mostly alcoholics so they were doing it every day

maybe the different effects from absynthe are only evident when someones been using alot of it over time

I'm slowly sipping a blend of 2 oz absinthe ~6 oz water and 2 teaspoons sugar

Ive had real imported absinthe on several occasions from two different brands. Cant remember what they were because I did not purchase them myself but the effects did seem to be unique from regular liquor in a certain way, I didnt drink that that much so I cant really say I got the full blown experience but I definitely enjoyed it. Absinthe is my favorite liquor.

It's tasty.  and it's not too strong when properly diluted or too sweet and very herbal.

It's sorta like there's a (bullshit) divide between manly and girly drinks but if I had to place absinthe somewhere in that dichotomy, I would take it out and call it a shaman(who like's to feel groovy and hedonistic every now and again)'s type of alcohol.

I have drank absinthe with worm wood several times. Each time I ended up surprisingly drunk but did not experience any psychedelic effects.

Maybe 2 or 3 shots of absinthe per 12 oz of Barq's, since absinthe is 130 proof. also absinthe and black tea with sugar is excellent

Today it is known that absinthe does not cause hallucinations. Thujone, once widely believed to be an active chemical in absinthe, is a GABA antagonist; and while it can produce muscle spasms in large doses, there is no direct evidence to suggest it causes hallucinations. It has been speculated that reports of hallucinogenic effects of absinthe were most likely due to poisonous adulterants being added to cheaper versions of the drink in the 19th century.

I'm also considering this one I found online, even though I don't understand how much of each:
DESIRE
1/4 Absinthe Original
1/2 tablespoon sugar
3/4 lemon juice
Shake well and pour into cocktail glass.
