Yea dude. It was pretty much any "extreme" sport. That was around the time the X-games started getting really popular, and every white kid wanted to be a pro skater, surfer, rollerblader (you remember they used to have aggresive inline lol?), BMX rider, etc.

Like you said though, at least with skating you could point out the posers if they were wearing some brand new, puffy DC's, or Globe's that were in pristine condition.

Just the word poser itself is so lame lol. I feel lame typing it.

Driving 50 60 miles to get to that hidden half pipe in some barn was normal for me. Xgames:lol: i don't even think ESPN existed back then. Now go to OBX and take a ride back into Colington there's a half pipe in almost every yard. I got  a much younger friend who is into long boarding I'd join him but I don't heal as fast as I used to. Water and Snow is much softer.:thatsayes:

hahah aggressive inline skating - fruit booting  boy did that extreme sport fall off hard.

personally i skated and i mainly rode bmx when i was little (up until like 16) my friend in my neighborhood went to woodward every year so his dad built him a 6 foot half pipe in his back yard and we went to town on that thing.....it was so much fun, i skated the halfpipe mostly, only rode a bike a few times on it but on the opposite side of the neighborhood we had a big patch of woods that we set up a nice downhill bmx dirt course that was pretty sweet, i was trying tailwhips at 12 but once i got a car i hopped off the bike and that was that

then snowboarding became big to me and ive been focusing on that mainly for the past few years...finally getting decent  i think extreme sports are some of the best ways to get and keep you in shape

sorry to derail the thread

You're extremely lucky to live in a place where you can ride powder like 5-6 months out of the year. I don't snowboard, but I absolutely love skiing and I only go once every 1-2 years. I don't know if I'd be able to trade the beach and surfing for skiing, but it'd just be awesome if I could go more often to ski resorts.

You're absolutely right. That's why to this day all xgames events are broadcast on espn or ABC. ABC being the network that owns all the ESPN networks.

From the first year they put the xgames together, it's been broadcast on espn.

Yea, downhill longboarding is insane.
You gotta have some big fuckin' balls to do that kinda stuff.

When I was a kid my friends and I would luge the big drawbridges over here as there is no elevation (no hills). And we used to get up to around 35mph. That was fun as hell and right when the first longboard skateboards were coming out.

Back then there were only 2 brands you could get. It was the Bareback and a few months later the first Sector 9 came out.

TB420: Do you invest in a season pass over by you, or is it cheaper to just pay by the day considering how much you board?

You got at least till late April/early May. Even here in western PA with a lot of man made snow/ice you can push till late april Just expect to do some base cleaning about every 10 runs But that's why they put soap in the bathrooms. Trust me I know all the tricks of the trade.

well the big resorts always close up in the last 2 weeks of april...a couple of the smaller mountains push it (like the one i work at) we try to stay open as late as possible. 5 years ago we were open for 4th of july, last year we closed june 28th

and what do you mean base cleaning, like you use soap as your wax??

My buddy wants to crack 100 mph  I know he's done 70 and we have the hill picked out I just don't think he can hit 100 on this hill well not that he can't it's just a matter of running his speed out there is less than 1/8th of a mile before he hits RR trax  I think he can do 80 maybe even 85 I'll be behind him on a street luge till he out runs me at the first big bend.(or till I pussy out) He wants towed in till 35 40 mph. That means I actually have to start before him.

That's sick.
I always knew it was expensive out there for day passes, but I was thinking at the most like 80 or 90 bucks. At 180, it pays for itself having a season pass in 4 visits. That's insane.

I got my last pass here for 200$ it paid for its self in 3 days . Granted I'm out east and dailys are 65.00 but most of the slopes are lit till 10 pm on the back and untill 11 on the front. I actually like  night skiing as opposed to day less crowds and sometimes 0 lift lines and if the opperators know you they sometimes will let you get that 1 more run in.

Day tickets here average about 120, 80 at some of the smaller mountains. Keystone has night skiing but its always too cold or the weather is fucked.

It's just nice when a storm comes in that drops different amounts in different places I have 5 mountains in co to choose from, then if we are getting boned I always have Utah and tahoe as back ups or vacation trips

Yea. That's what I'm used to as well.
The last 5 times I've been skiing have been in NC and WV once. Snowshoe, WV is a great mountain with I think 65 trails in total which is amazing for the East. Usually I'll go to the Boone area though and ski Beech and Sugar mountain.

IIRC it's right around $60 a day at both mountains, and early/late season it goes down to $30-40 a day. Granted, both mountains only have around 15-20 trails each, but for those prices I wouldn't expect much better.

I enjoy night sessions a lot better too. Sugar and Beech during the high season are completely packed with younger kids and first timers getting in the way. At night it's mostly the locals, still crowded, but you don't have to be cutting around or jumping over a downed skier/boarder every few yards.
