my closest break meaning like ocean waves? Probably like 100 thousand miles away.
There are pools I can use but they are all a decent distance from my house and a pain for me to get to and use, but its worth it I guess, ill just have to make it work.

Yeah I didn't think so... I just looked up surfing in Iceland, and came across an awesome video.

I've been surfing most of my life. at least 18+ years. I was very consistent when I was younger and got pretty good for my age. Then skateboarding took over and I didn't surf as much.
I recently moved to a place right on the water. I surf every day there is waves now. It has honestly changed my life. I live a much happier and healthier lifestyle. There is nothing in the world more therapeutic than being out in the lineup as the sun is rising at 7a.m.. Nature at it's finest.
I've traveled to many awesome places for surfing. I think Nicaragua is next on my list. Amazing waves, minimal crowds, cheap and beautiful surroundings. Sounds awesome. Costa rica is great, but from what I understand, Nica is what Costa was like 15 years ago.

Totally man! Go to San Juan Del Sur! Or maybe there are better spots but that place was FUN to surf, not that I have been anywhere else yet. A good group of 15 people or so but not crowded exactly.

I went to Costa Rica for three months in late 2010 to early 2011. Stayed in Playa Hermosa and surfed twice a day every day I was there. My favorite surf spot by far. We also took a trip down to the Osa peninsula for a few days and surfed some breaks down there. Really epic wilderness, nothing down there but jungle and beach. Can't wait to get back there. We also went to Panama but didn't surf. We ended up on the Caribbean side and it was flat.
A shot of me on a left in Hermosa. Fun times.

Awesome! I stayed in Playa Hermosa as well. So beautiful! You're so lucky to have stayed there so long. Such consistent waves. Where I'm from, not so much. Summers are dreadful.

I have my "secret spot" in Costa Rica. Most of the time I'm the only person out on the water. But you know the old saying.. "Locals Only!"

Here is my home break, good ol San Clemente... Locals only bro! Haha
Yes, I wear booties in the winter. I get numb feet, and I can't stand up on the board if I can't feel my feet lol. Don't judge me...

My biggest issue in the winter, is my lungs start killing me when then air is cold. Happened to me yesterday actually. Had a shitty session because my lungs hurt so much and I couldn't stop coughing. Maybe you get used to it when it's a normal thing... I live in FL lol so it doesn't happen often.

For me its just my toes and fingers that go numb before complete hypothermia sets in
I know the guy that runs the "Rancho Burica" in Costa Rica. Bunch of Dutch surfers bought that plot of land some 20 years ago

I didn't know it got that cold in FL. Do you smoke? That might affect your sensitive lungs... How sharky is it over there?

Can't blame you for the boots. I'm in SC and on the off chance there is a wave in the winter you better believe i'll have boots on.

DMT: I'm in South FL. We do make trips north to Sebastian area though because the bahamas blocks a lot of swells here.
Nature Meds: It's very rare we get cold weather, but yesterday was was in the 40's. For us that's freezing lol.... I do smoke occasionally, so that would probably be a major factor.
We've been getting some great swells here recently. Here's last thursday..

I like to hit up uppers, or barb wires in the winter if we get a good swell direction. Rincon, and somewhere in San Diego would be my other options.

I should have mentioned that the pic wasn't me haha. That's Matt Kechele, a FL surfboard shaper and Pro. I was out there that day. It's pretty surreal when we get waves like that in FL. We mostly get smaller windchop. At least it's been consistent this season.
Here's a review of the recent east coast swell on Surfline. http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/florida-steals-the-show-as-east-coast-sees-solid-swell-from-offshore-winter-storm-the-purple-blob-that-ate-the_122900/
