Poetry tis Superior * 1
    #21172061 -

Im finding lately that writing in the usual philosophical prose has reached inherent limits.
The concepts, even attempting to adhere to typical prose, can really only be transmitted through poetry.

Herein I have discovered thr superiority of poetry to philosophy. A poetic utterance may relay textbook levels of information in a single paragraph.
There exists information which can only be understood and transmitted on poetic terms.
It is poetry that the universe communicates. I have personally observed (granted on high dose psychedelics the first time) language, reality,  and myself merge into some sort of hypercommunicatve singularity. Language and indeed all reality all of a sudden coincide in ways which are undeniably multi-dimensional in terms of reference and meaning.
I think we must capture this language in prose if we are to really describe the universe in any meaningful way; the theory must reflect in the very language used so that as it is being read it is undeniable.

This is taking General semantics into account and transcending the known limits of language in order that the map becomes the territory.
Pay attention to our poets, you will not regret.

I agree, I work towards having my words be more poetic, spacing them various ways, choosing to punctuate oddly .
Large blocks of thought or text can be cumbersome, it is useful to be poetic.

Haha OP is not a poem..just the realization that poetry is more apt to describe the universe than typical prose.
And to bring into attention the very real potential of multi-dimensional language in everyday life.

Doesn't mathematics accomplish this magnificently?

Yeah, I see what you mean.

This reminds me of the Steve Allen poem:

Roses are red, violets are blue.
You think this will rhyme, but it ain't gonna.

Indeed it does; indeed some mathematics is poetry.

people appreciate verse with rhyming reason

i think people recollect poems. i think people talked in poetic form at one point, ordinarily, and that poetry invented language. before we could speak language, we communicated with body gestures and noises. both are forms of poetry. visual poetry, and sound poetry. as we developed language, we communicated in the way of sound and visual poetry along with the explaining in due course of the explanation, a bypass to intellectual information, which is why we get playacting; and we followed it up with, of course, our intellectual meanderings, in particularly conversation, as opposed to one on one communication. we probably started talking in any of this regard trying to either maintain a relationship (ie. gaining attraction) or communicate a feeling (ie. explaining an emotion; to appeal to one's good graces; to a relevant source of bias)

thus we get philosophy. explaining our causes, and not just informing people of relevant information.

that's what i think, anyway.

but poetry doesn't work better than prose in philosophy, i don't think. poetry is entirely different, and doesn't work as well in that regard.

poetry shouldn't be a philosophical exercise.

it should provide intellect, but it should avoid philosophy.

poetry that touches on the intellectual is like a shadow on the face of God.

well, a poem shouldn't be what you don't want it to be. so by all means, you should impart any philosophy you wish on a poem. but a poem strives to be as precise as possible.

and philosophy tends to be meandering and tends to break apart at the seams.

a poem should hold strong and true.

a poem can be open ended, but it shouldn't question it's self entirely at all points, like in philosophy. it should at least, at minimum, allow a certainty. whatever that certainty may be to the reader.

something magical happens when you speak poetry from the soul.

i wonder if the "soul" of that can be isolated down to a formula to achieve a poetic story which becomes symmetrical and relative to other great works often leaving room open for linking thus completing the picture of inter connectivity of all great works..

This is why i think Terence Mckennas audio tapes were so power, because i can actually experience the poetry he spoke but in real time every time i dose a psychedelic.
