loving the straw so far, now what?

just getting to know spawning to straw and a touch of poo and i have a ?.

first the details: there are 2 sterlite tubs (20 quart) one with LY and one with EQ, both were spawned with 2 to 3 quarts of popcorn. the substrate is about 3 inches deep. they are wrapped in syran wrap and in the inncubater now. they are almost done colonizing (just a small corner to go) after about 10 to 12 days.

since they will be done soon and need to be fruited i would like to know if a casing is good or bad. i have read that each can work but would just like to know what you folks suggest. would be using roughly 50/50 coir verm.

also should lime be added to the casing mixture, i had none at the time the straw was prepared and was just getting a feel for things so there is no lime in the actual straw.

and my last ?, i was going to start up a couple more tubs while these are fruiting. what is the proper ratio of lime to straw?

Casing will allow you to attain a higher yield.Yes Buffer the Ph to 7.5,the casing will resist trichoderma and many other contams.The straw is the same,buffer it to 7-8 Ph and your in biz.PM me about the method of pasturizing your straw and i'll try to help with the buffer.

Per Rodger Rabitt's pasteurization tek --

Add 1/2 tablespoon of agricultural lime powder per gallon of water.
If it takes 10 gallons of water to completely cover the straw, then use 5 tablespoons of lime.

My gal also adds 1/2 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water as well.

She pasteurize at 160 degrees for one hour.

thank you both for the advice :cool:

straw seems like such a great way of doing things, just have never seen a cake or grain jar explode with myc like the straw did.

now if those contams will just stay at bay, i have learned to never get ones hopes up, leads to less disappointment. i shall toss a 50/50 casing with lime on them in the next day or two and see what transpires.
