Here it is: Jotun!
    #2108674 - 11/15/03 09:56 AM (13 years, 23 days ago)

Well, some of the members of my band that have access to a computer (me, my keyboardist, and my rhythm guitarist, who can also play a lot of leads, thank God) have started recording some songs, using Cool Edit.

We figure that if we can't play together, we might as well work on some music together and have some fucking wicked tracks to listen to.

So, to start out with, to sort of test this all out and everything, we recorded IN FLAMES fucking killer song, Jotun! Chris did all the rhythm and the two lead tracks (mmmmmm..... harmonies.... ) and I laid down the bass track, of course. There is no synth in the song, though, but Travis still got to help out. I sent him the MIDI file containing the drums, from Guitar Pro, and he pulled it into his synth and applied some fucking sweet drum samples.

So, for all of you metal fans out there, here's some metal! (This ones for you, Shroomism. hehehe). I did my best to get it sounding as best as I could, applying some light reverbs to the leads and doing some hiss reduction and so forth. It is pretty crunchy, but that's a good thing. It sounds great on my speakers (and I was listening to the Colony cd last night at full fucking volume, at five in the morning... on the last song my right speaker completley gave out! it has seemed to heal, however).

Notice how good the drums sound for a synth. Also, the bass track is sort of shitty because the song is in C Standard and I really didn't feel like fiddling with the bridge to bring the tension back in, since the night before I spent five fucking hours fucking with this fretless, to no avail.

So, we decided on doing Behind Space next, also by IN FLAMES, just because it is so fucking sweet. After that we have an epic death metal track that Chris wrote that will sound fucking amazing. I have a MIDI file of it if any of you want to hear it before we do it. (synths! I can't wait to get those synths in on this!)

Well, if you are still reading after all of this, here it is, the Jotun cover by Skooma! (working name... you Morrowind folks know!) I think it is sweet to be able have the oppurtunity to post mp3s up that we are doing to share with you all, it really has me excited. I mean, we have all sorts of art that we get to view on here (and its all fucking great, guys and gals!), but we need to get more music on here, more trance and more metal....

Okay, I'm done ranting!  Jotun!

Hey, let me know what ya'll think.
Peace.

Its not perfect, by the way, there are little mistakes here and there in the guitar and all, but as a whole it sounded wicked, so we consider it done.

I just can't wait until we do this song that he has written in Guitar Pro... damn, it is so fucking impressive!

Thanks for downloading it, man!
Peace.

Ya, I noticed the mistakes. Also if I'm not mistaken you altered some parts? It was good tho, would have enjoyed a bit more originality and maybe some vocals and better sound quality, but I should know not to expect TOO much from some guy posting on a forum. If you don't have somebody for the vocals all you need to do is get really drunk and scream for death metal lol. Anyways, can't wait to hear more covers, as far as I know you're the only people who have done one for In Flames. Also, why not post up that midi?

Ja, Chris has some mistakes here and there, but the thing sounds kick ass, and like I said, I didn't feel like fucking around with my bridge to get more tension in my strings, so I had to concentrate on making the notes not buzz, which took away from my playing.

The parts should be pretty much the same, unless he did something different here and there with the leads. His microphone is really shitty too, so that is where the sound quality comes in, but I think it sounds perfect after doing some hiss reductions and some doctoring up.

He is going to do vocals for it sometime, I guess. Anyways, right now we are just having fun with some creative output, and we are basically doing a lot of exploration as a band, finding out what we think sounds good and what doesn't, and so forth. Basically starting to evolve.

Right now I am doing something with Behind Space, and I plan on rolling tonight, but tomorrow I will get that MIDI up here.

By the way, thanks for listening, man. Its nice to get some feedback.
Peace.
