A Perfect Circle In Concert
    #2482536 - 03/30/04 01:06 AM (19 years, 11 months ago)

I saw them last night with the Mars Volta opening up. MV was crazy energetic, and often much too chaotic to enjoy deeply.  I saw the singer and the guitarist when they played in At-the-drive-in, and it was cool, but it was interesting to watch them perform.
A Perfect Circle came on starting off with Vanishing.  Maynard was behind a backlit screen playing these big mallet drums, then the rest of the band came in. The entire set was very dramatic, lots of space, and colorful lights, etc.
Unfortunately, Maynard had the flu, and the drummer Josh broke his leg (tho it must have been his hi-hat leg).  Maynard didn't get nearly into it as much as when I saw him w/ Tool, but was most energetic during Thinking Of You.  The bassist sang a song about pants, which was funny shit, and Maynard told us all to say 'shitfuck'.

They only played for about 50 minutes, extremely disappointing... What they did play, kicked ass tho, but I missed out on probably 4 or 5 more songs.  They played an interesting rendition of Nurse Who Loved Me, and also played A Stranger for the first time this tour   Amidst the huge production, the enormous rocking sound, and Maynard's words of inspiration, I almost forgot that he was sick and the set was short. Almost.  He didn't hit too many high notes, dropped out the end of 3 Libras, and didn't hear much of a scream. But, then again, if he does that every night for 4 straight months, he'll never get better and ruin his voice forever.

Hopefully I'll see them next time around, and it'll be a full set.

I saw APC in concert a month or so back and they fucking rocked
We got the pants song too. I just about creamed myself during Pet
I only recently figured out The Nurse Who Loved Me is actually a cover, the original is by an extremely cool band called Failure

All you guys who have seen Tool or APC are lucky bastards. Such amazing bands and I haven't got to see them once....

yeah, up on a platform in the middle toward the back of the stage.
He wasn't nearly as animated as he usually is, because he was sick...

I do consider myself lucky that Tool has been in my area so much recently (past 3 years)

I hope you get to see them eventually!

At the drive in and the Mars Volta are great. They have crazy energy when they play live, like you said. Good stuff, sucks the guy that did the electronic stuff for mars volta died.

Dude, the basist is Jeordi White, A.K.A Twiggy Ramirez.

I love Twig, but Paz Lenchantin is a godess.

I totally agree. I loved Paz, and I'll miss her violin. :frown:
