When does it crest?

Hi Guys
in May i bought this Myrtillocactus Geometrizans crested :


It became a big crest in no time, also this was due the vegetative period, but hey, i was really fast

Also i happened to find this tall  Myrtillo Crest in September/October
I bought it for 5 euros, a really big deal (Also the thickness at the base is almost the same as the first exemplar



Now the question:
How come some exemplars just Crest widely and some others just grow in height?


It's clear that the first exemplar is a much beautiful one, and i wonder when the second one will start to "crest wide"

Dude nice, those are beautiful.
I've had one of these on my wish list for a while.

I'm just spit balling here, but I don't think they grow in any designated parameters or follow a time stamp...if that's what you're asking?

They're wild cards, never know what, when, or where you're gonna have growth. Just as anything.

NOW, whether or not the column ALWAYS crests and fans out or not...I have no idea.

I have a fairly large Myrtillocactus Geometrizans cresting variety in the ground. If yours grows like mine (which it seems to be doing), there is really isn't any way to tell.  When yours gets bigger, it will start branching, alot, and each branch will be different, ranging from forming large crests to very little cresting and fairly normal growth.
