LOL slothie......"if this happens again you should be more careful"
um yeah, try and cut back on letting him eat weed butter and stuff, ok?  Plus too i wear a football helmet and a bib.  plus also i like pudding.

just giving you shit :dawerp:

@dustbunny um no.  im 99% sure they will not call the cops.  That is what i do for work, for many many years at a very busy practice.  Every dr and clinic i know will not release that information.
it is absolutely necessary people feel safe to tell the vet what the dog ingested.  If they ingested heroin they can't give them antagonists like naloxone and more intensive supportive care.  People will not come forward with medical information if they don't trust their Dr's.
If it is something that has repeatedly happened... it's possible they could say something.  Honestly though more people poison their pets by not reading directions on wormer or buying the wrong flea medication.

Don't bring your dog to the vet.  THC isn't going to kill your dog unless it chokes on his own puke and dies.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23216842

I would suggest using a turkey baster and just slowly squiriting it in his mouth as he drinks it.  He's not going to die, people here haven't experienced it.  My friend used to grow and went through this shit many times.  I can call him if you want.

watch the dog aspirate from fluid in its lungs from the turkey baster.  lol

no, dog needs IV fluids. Or 200ml fluids under the skin every twelve hours.  Then antibiotics cause that aint gonna be sterile.  lol

Agreed, although with a dog that size, probably easier to go with 200ml of fluid subQ than IV. Also cheaper than setting up an IV drip and pretty much as effective.

if he did what i said you wouldnt have to worry about that... but he should just be taking him to an emergency vet of course

dripping water on someones lips/mouth slowly will hydrate them just from it absorbing to the mucous membrane

its been done for centuries with people and animals

The dog isn't going to aspirate if he slowly drips it into his mouth.  Syringe would work a lot better, but its not going to kill his dog by helping him drink.  Subq is better but if the dog can keep down water isn't going to be necessary.  Also I've injected myself with toilet water plenty of times with no ill effects, just use distilled water and the dog will be fine.  No need for antibiotics.

Fapjack, you're just wrong about this.  I know that weed isn't likely to kill, but the resultant  dehydration can really fuck a little dog up.

OP, I strongly urge you to take your dog to the vet.  After this many hours, he really needs fluids safely administered.  They likely won't call the cops.  My father was a veterinarian, we lived above his practice.  I've seen many a stoned dog, and while I'm only speaking for one vet, I know he never called the police about this.

Sprinkles:  LOL, this is the thread you were born to post in, bro.  Funny you saw someone giving completely irrelevant and terrible advice and didn't read the screen name at all and just assumed it was moonshoe.  I can understand how you'd make that mistake, and it's a funny one.

Well I took you guys' advice and called a friend who is a vet, and asked her what she thought based on the circumstances, and she had me check the dog's gums and the scruff of the neck and all that and she told me to fill a syringe with activated charcoal and water (to remove any remaining toxins and hydrate him) so I did that and squirted some into his mouth, which he swallowed. I also got him to eat some wet food (the kind In gravy) which I mixed with activated charcoal and water to further hydrate and detoxify him. He didn't show any of the signs of dehydration but I'm continuing to offer him water in a bowl and feed him wet food

Glad he's ok, glad you didn't take him to a vet.  Last thing you need is someone taking your dog and calling the cops on you for animal cruelty...

You think some vet you never met before will give you the benefit of the doubt you are taking a risk.  Its something I really don't think most of the posters here considered.  THC related death....  Give me a break.

LOL spray his nose with a spray bottle!!!  OMG thats too much  what does that do exactly?

@burke.  I know right?  lol i saw the first couple sentences and thought "time is of the essence!"  then went back and said "fuck"
its good advice though.  if your dog gets into slug bait or rat poison, hydrogen peroxide if given within an hour will make them vomit.  *this is also true of suicidal ex's who take large amounts of pills to kill themselves**) They may still have ingested some so you really have to watch them close.  Also with antifreeze same thing, only you also give vodka.  It reverses the mechanism of the toxic metabolite in the bloodstream.  Follow up with bloodwork to be safe so they can check their red blood cell and platelet count.

that is total malarkey.  don't give advice like that, that is the stupidest thing i have ever heard in my life.  they are not going to absorb enough water that way to keep them from dying if they are sick.  That is absolutely absurd.  if anything you are just making them uncomfortable. Even worse making it harder for them to breath.  Peoples stupidity amazes me.

Dog ate the material a full day ago---there is nothing to vomit at this point. Inducing vomiting will only further dehydrate the dog. The dog will need IV or SubQ fluids ASAP.

i did not suggest doing it this time, it is obviously WAY too late for that and nowhere in my post did i suggest he do that for this instance. i said if something like this ever happens AGAIN that he needs to contact poison control and they can tell him whether or not he should induce vomiting IF it's been less than an hour BUT that he should probably just take it to the vet rather than do anything himself.

sprinkles: context is key: "if this ever happens again--you should be more careful in the future, especially due to him being a smaller dog--contact poison control or your vet immediately." Dashes, like commas, semicolons, colons, ellipses, and parentheses, indicate added emphasis, an interruption, or an abrupt change of thought.
