Well if that bothers you, you would not like many many other things,
And by then you food choices have narrowed significantly,
Like, insect-derived red color additives cochineal extract or carmine,
Or like the acceptable % of maggots that is allowed in our food source,

gelatin, an animal product rendered from the hides and bones of animals.
The production of gelatin starts with the boiling of bones, skins, and hides of cows and pigs, a process that releases the protein-rich collagen from animal tissues. The collagen is boiled and filtered numerous times, dried, and ground to a powder. Because the collagen is processed extensively, the final product is not categorized as a meat or animal product by the federal government.

I would have been much happier just not knowing what honey actually is. I also plan on staying completely naive as to what % of maggots is acceptable in our food sources, and what that insect additive coloring stuff you just mentioned is. Ignorance is bliss, in this case

Honey isn't JUST bee vomit, it's processed bee vomit.
They drink up the nectar, puke it out, and then they fan it so that some of the water evaporates from it, leaving the thick syrupy sugars and such behind.
There's nothing nasty about your normal supermarket honey, though. It's been filtered and is quite clean.

My grandfather was a bee-keeper when I was young, so I learned this at a pretty young age. Bee's have always fascinated me, and without them we wouldn't have nearly as many plant-like foods as we do. They wouldn't be polinated, and therefore would die off. I think that because of this I have respect for the bee and enjoy honey because it's their natural creation. How many other insects do you know that can make something so versitile?

Exactly my thoughts! Once upon a time I started worrying about what I was eating and I finally decided just a few weeks ago that, well, you just can't eat if you want to be "karma free" or are disgusted by natural processes such as fermentation Sometimes thinking too much is thinking too much
Liz, I'm not offended by your comment, it's just that I find it funny that you didn't take for granted that honey is indeed known and appreciated outside America. Actually it is also enjoyed by many kinds of animals and not only humans!
Truly a fascinating subject and a delicious meal! I'm a take a little bit of crystallized honey for dinner

The funny thing is for me that I have been on a honey kick for some time now, I put it in everything that I can, and when that is not enough I just spread it on a piece of bread, oh man it rocks,
I got blackberry honey now

I find eating local honey is a great way of preventing hay fever. I add the stuff to soap too for it's naturally anti-bacterial/anti-fungal properties.
I've got some great honey atm thats gathered from wild bees in the tropical rainforest's of Miombo. The beekeepers hang their bark hives high up in the forest canopy out of reach of honey badgers and army ants lol. It's really tasty stuff, totally different to any other honey I've tried

Wanna bet?
It's in all kinds of breads, cakes, cookies, barbeque sauces, soups, glazes, deserts by the thousands and more.
Good luck preparing all of your own food from scratch from now on.
Tupelo honey is my favorite. So sweet and delicious!
