Anyone with veterinary knowledge!?

Hey pub, I'm wondering if any of you have any veterinary knowledge because unfortunately my small dog has ingested what seems to be way too much of some weed food. Basically, I was making canna butter and when I was done I dumped the used weed outside. Well, when I let my dog out to go to the bathroom he ate the weed that was soaked in potent butter. He soon became extremely lethargic, had constant shivers (borderline hypothermic) and soon he couldn't even stay awake, let alone walk.

Anyway, being extremely concerned, I slept with him all night last night and held him to keep him warm. In the morning I wrapped him in a blanket to keep him warm and went to work, hoping he'd sleep it off. Well I got off work today and he still couldn't walk or stand. But now there's a new problem: my 13 pound dog is so baked he has no desire to eat or drink. I put water up to his snout and he looked at it and sniffed it a tiny bit but he never drank any. I don't wanna force water or food down his throat (he won't eat either) because he's likely already having an ultra bad trip and I don't wanna make it worse.

So here's my dilemma: he hasn't eaten or drank anything in about 19 hours and he also hasn't gone to the bathroom. (I let him out once after work and he stumbled around and laid down on his stomach in a weird way so he may have peed) I need to know if I should take him to a vet or not because it Is now 18 hours later and he is still having shivers when someone isn't wrapped around him with a blanket. I read on some websites that if a dog is "comatose" it needs to be brought into a vet to have tubes shoved in it to feed him and hydrate him. My dog isn't comatose but when he gets deep into sleep he becomes a ragdoll who is incoherent and won't wake up for a few hours. I hate seeing my dog like this and I need to know it it is safe to let him sleep it off and risk him being passed out for another day.

If that is a bad idea bringing him to the vet is a worst case scenario (too expensive) and vomiting/activated charcoal is out of the question because he ate it over 19 hours ago. Please help! Thanks shroomery!

I actually have had 2 different friends who had dogs that ate shit tons of ganja food before.  They will piss, puke, and shit themselves and zone out for a while.  The dog will be fine.  Don't bring it to the vet, just watch him.

Puke piss and shit is not the problem, the problem is he needs water and food into his body and I can't give it to him. he's greening out to the max and the room is spinning for him, so he has no desire to eat and drink even if it's doing damage to his organs.

Wow! Monumentally bad advice. Your dog needs fluids. Fluids need to come in and fluids needs to be eliminated. Small dogs have a smaller 'buffer' or reserve. This means fluid balance needs to be more tightly controlled. Your dogs kidneys may soon start to experience issues if fluid balance isn't maintained. These issues (elevated creatinine and blood urea nitrogen) are serious and may not be transient if you don't get fluid into your dog. I highly recommend you take your dog to the vet.

My ex's Golden Retriever when he was 6 months old ate an oz of bud one day due to her brother leaving it on the kitchen counter. The dog proceeded to do what fapjack said. Shitting, pissing, vomiting...

My ex took the dog to the vet, spent a shitload of money, and I believe they pumped his stomach. Not quite sure though. What I do remember is the vet saying that she was lucky she brought the dog in.

how long ago?  do you have hydrogen peroxide?  if its been under an hour give him small amounts of that.  not too much down the throat at once or they can aspirate.  it will bubble in the stomach and he will vomit.  if he doesn't vomit within 10 minutes give more

oops... yeah its been too long.  You should get him to the vet.  if he isnt eating and drinking after 19 hours and still lethargic he needs IV fluids.  Weed is toxic to animals.

OP, get it to a vet imo.

in the meantime, soak a clean rag in water, wring it out a lil so you dont make a mess, and drip the water into his mouth or lips.

let it drip slow, let his mouth absorb the water, cause the probably cant swallow it. this will at least prevent him from becoming dangerously dehydrated

he most likely needs fluids. trying to force fluids down his throat is a bad idea as he could aspirate it and that will cause a whole bunch of other problems.

pull up on the loose skin on nape of his neck. does it fall down back into place readily or does it sort of seem to 'stick'? most likely, at this point, it's a but sticky. this means he is dehydrated. you will also want to check the color of his gums. if you press on them, how fast does color return (they should be pink or, depending on the dog, purple-ish), or do they seem paler than normal? this could indicate that he is not oxygenating properly.

regardless of these things, you need to take him to the vet and be honest about what he's ingested and how long ago it was. they can at least give him subcutaneous fluids and get him on oxygen, possibly give him a valium if he's overly sensitive to external stimulus, and provide him with anything else if he needs it.


if this ever happens again--you should be more careful in the future, especially due to him being a smaller dog--contact poison control or your vet immediately. if they are asymptomatic, and depending on what they ingested, poison control or your vet can tell you whether or not inducing vomiting is a good idea and what to do to induce. as far as i know, 3% hydrogen peroxide is currently the only safe method of doing this at ~0.5-1.0 ml of peroxide per pound of weight. generally, it is best to just take them to the vet to avoid causing more damage.

Dog ate the material a full day ago---there is nothing to vomit at this point. Inducing vomiting will only further dehydrate the dog. The dog will need IV or SubQ fluids ASAP.

moonshoe the vet will NEVER call the cops in cases like this.  they would rather you tell them so they know what they're treating for.  It falls under client confidentiality.  and the vet doesn't give a fuck if you smoke recreational mj. or if it ate heroin.  they really don't care.  its about the health and welfare of the animal

Take the dog to the vet. 100% sure you should. They will not report you unless you abused them, and it sounds like an accident.

It can be considered neglect or abuse and yes, cops have been called before. It is up to the vet.
