He still delivers just hasn't been given the same genre defining roles to play. He had a great story to work with in films like Fear and Loathing and Blow, not so much in recent films.

I don't think he was good in On Stranger Tides compared to the rest of the POC movies, quite disappointing actually. He keeps on playing the same character in each movie now.

His best film for me has to be Gilbert Grape, that made me tear up :crying:

Also Sweeney Todd was great.

I've yet to see that.  A friend ov mine says that was his best role.  My favorite depp role was in Arizona dream, which is an absolutely fantastic movie all around( i give it 9/10).  The surreal nature that permeated this flick vivified a most curious blend ov silliness, profundity, and morbidity which depp seemed to revel in.  This movie was a financial flop and is largely unknown nowadays.  Some have attributed this to being "too European" for the American market, which is a bitch ass way ov saying that it was too unique, chaotic and surreal to be successful. 

I believe that maybe depp is best suited for the roles he's not going to receive again, being those which show expectation its ass and then turn around to reveal a penis when a pussy was assumed.  Or perhaps he has just typecast himself and caters to easy scripts and the dollar.  I do'nt know.  Any actor will fall off if they look at film making as a craft instead ov an art.

I liked 2011's The Rum Diary a lot, don't think I've seen any more recent film. I liked Rango of the same year too.

I love surreal and weird movies. Always good food for the mind.

he made tonto come to life but tonto speaks in stereotypical native american (how we portray them), so it really wasn't that impressive. he also appeared drunk for an acceptance speech or something right? lol

since he's gotten famous, he can choose his roles at will. does he have a kid? it would explain his choosing a lot of really immature roles.

or maybe he's just a kid at heart and loves bringing life to this immature roles? :shrug: either way, it's not my thing, but he's a good actor still.

He played a good frenchman in Kevin Smith's ridiculous new movie "Tusk" about turning a man into a walrus. I couldnt even tell it was him until he was 5 minutes into a monologue. He played a good casual, odd, French homicide detective. But, he does live in France...
