Re: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? [Re: Skunk420]

the whole squirl concept is cool...

i just finished watching it... and toward the end its like "man, where's this film going?" there is no conflict untill the end, and even then, its like "oh, ok..." then they resolve it...

The oompa loompas songs are whack...

the whole interaction with charlie and wonka is weak, and the whole story seems to rush along... not that you'd want to see more of this movie, but it's very fast paced and has no plot really...

and btw... the snozberries do taste like snozberries...

They might have made the film too fast, and didn't take time to make it better...a lot of remakes have been like that...
oh well, I still want to see it when it comes out to rent on DVD...I am sceptical about going to see it at the theater..now..

A friend told me it was also playing in IMAX in some cities.. that would be a prime way to see it.

This fucking git can call my nick silly, but I'm not allowed to insinuate he'd enjoy watching Johnny Depp act like a childish fag on screen?

GDman thinks his people are weak and feels a need to protect them even when it's unwarranted.

If I were a pub regular, I'd be offended at all of the shielding that takes place.

I'm replying to the last post because there are so many people being retards

1) If it was a remake it would be called 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'. The new film is more accurate to the book, 'Charlie and the chocolate factory'. so stop comparing th two movies.

2) to whoever said there won't be oompa loompas this time obviously didn't read the book.

3) the book is dark, it wasn't supposed to be some campy musical.

GOSH.

*waits for banning because I said 'retards'*

Forget the comparisons to the original. This new movie is very uninteresting. The sets are boring, the characters are all basically unlikable and poorly acted. The visual style of the film is extremely poor, at one point it wants to be stylized and symbolic, such as the various parts of their house, to some of the intro scenes in the factory. At other points it wants to be bland and boring. It comes off to me as a film made by a mediocre director who saw stylized films by such directors as Terry Gilliam, Bunuel, and such and thought all it took is a bit of color and odd angles. Johnny Depp is aweful in the movie, there were points when I actually was extremely annoyed by him.
Now to compare it to the original film is quite a comparison. Gene Wilder was a brilliant Wonka, just note how he tells the TV watching kid that he cant hear him and he needs to speak up. Then watch Depp's portrayal of that same scene, it really is night and day. The new movie isnt dark at all, that is a big complaint of mine in terms of the new movie. I cant see how anything in the movie could be construed as dark. The old movie has extremely dark scenes. With Gene Wilder clearly not caring about the welfare of the kids when they are turning into plums, or falling into garbage chutes. But he acts it beautifully by consoling the parents, but doing it with a perfect hint of sarcasm. The old movie had the boat scene, which compared to the utterly aweful plain white walled boat ride in the new one, is extremely dark.
Where have all the good directors gone? All I have now is Wes Anderson, and some foreign directors.

I really have to say I expected so much more out of Depp. The film was interesting but just wasn't what I expected. Depp could have made this film even better if he was even a bit more odd and manic. I get the feeling someone else was behind the production that caused it to not to be as fun as the original.

I didnt find it offensive, what you said...but then again it takes a lot to offend me really... I think Johnny Depp is funny acting that way, it makes it seem funnier..I would be on the ground laughing if he was acting that way thoughout the whole movie, expecially if I was high on something.. even sober I would think it was funny... :tongue2:
