from the movies released in 2005 i'd have to say either "garden state" or "sin city" ... although i think garden state was released in 2004 in the states...

I would say it's a tossup between...
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
and
Kramer vs Kramer, which is an old, old movie but one I hadn't seen in years when I rented it recently, and I loved it to absolute death.
Worst movie of 2005: Narnia.

Kesey wrote large sections of that book on LSD whilst working the nightshift in an institution. I think a lot of Chief Broom chapters.
The best film I saw in 2005 was Crash.
